..can anyone recommend any decent mp3 encoders? i want to start transferring my cd collection to mp3 so i can take it with me on my laptop.. thanks. |

personally, i would use the ogg vorbis as my format of choice, encode the music at 96kbps, beats mp3 @ 128kbps.....end up saving yourself a lot of space, while keeping maximum quality |

you guys should check out Phatnoise music manager. phatnoise.com Its a music managing software that comes with the Kenwood Keg. its a hard drive for your car, with a removeable cartridge you take in your house to download music onto. very cool. Anyway the program itself is VERY goo. it supposts OGG up to 320. mp3 up to 320. wma only upto 128. wav. and FLAC formats. and you can add VBR on to all the compressed formats. make playlist's. all that good stuff. on their website i think they have some sort of free version. but if someone is interested, i could try to figure out how to take the full version of the cd and email it or something. oh, and its a breeze to use. |

take CDex, be sure to configure it properly, 256k are really worth it, 192k is fine too. cdex tells you when you produce jitter errors (from scratches on the cd). in that case use EAX (exact audio copy, also free) to extract the wav and then convert it with cdex. in that way you get all tracks in the same quality and with the same volume |
