He most certainly has lost his touch, not that "his touch"
was ever as good as AEs.

And thats the truth

Judging by Smojphace, yeah. But I'm NOT going to judge by
Smojphace. I expect something great next time... he
deliberately lowered expectations with a horrible release, I
hope. His next 4 star album will sound like a fiver.

He'll still suck compared to the Beatles though

the beatles are lucky if they can stand up against
squarepusher, much less aphex.

Herr cyanaTe - your avatar deeply frightens me.. it's
nighmarish!

Aphex twin has definately NOT lost his touch... do you
actually think such a thing is possible? How exactly do you
create quite possibly the best electronica of all time for
years and then one day just wake up and say "hmm, I feel
like now is a good time to forget everything I know about
making music
"

Get real.

FOR APHEX_TWIN ONLY

could you please offer some suggestions of AE stuff that you
think is better than AFX? Because the 10 or so songs I've
downloaded really aren't great in my opinion.. "Bike" being
the only one I really like.

Tibbar and I were talking, and we think that Druqs sounds
more like a sketch book than an album. It doesn't have a
flow. A lot of the tracks are good but are different from
one another in a way that breaks up the flow, plus some of
them were written years ago while others are newer (one or
two of them would be very at home on I Care Because You Do,
which was good for its time, but ...). I am not against
intermixing more hype beat oriented tracks and ambient
pieces on the same album, but you have to really plan your
transisions, track order, etc. for that to work.

RDJ and Come to Daddy, on the other hand, are excellent
albums because they do flow because the sound is consistent
and focused.

can't really say an artist has lost his touch based on one
release (I assume that's what you're all saying, cause most
people seem to hate SmojphaceE)... all artists release
crappy cds every now and then... except Boards of Canada! ;)

i like the lack of flow, it emphasizes the variety...if all
the piano peices were next to each other and then all the
drill peices and so on, it would be crap, not like a proper
album.

Yeah, I don't see how you people can say this about drukqs.
It seems very natural the way he's done it.

what the zuck? Drukqs is a masterpiece. just listen to it.
And lets not forget MEN1 cruncy!!!! I cannot understand
this, "drukqs has no flow" post. The sequence of songs on it
(hard/soft/complex beat driven/dischordant spare etec
etctctce )are extraordinary. It is worth listening too and
studying and is still absolutely fresh. I dloaded a thintoy
dj mix of drukqs and that kicks to!

Nearly every Aphex Twin I can think of (besides the Selected
Ambient Workses) have all been quite a mish-mash of varying
tunes. But I think that's why I love Aphex Twin in first
place... Drukqs' contrasts of high energy brainddrill with
somber, beautiful piano tracks creates one of the most
bizarre atmospheres I've ever heard on an album. Awesome
stuff.
