Elephant (what a movie!)

Anyone saw it? I couldn't find a topic about it,which, I
thought, was quite surprising.

It's been a long time since I was so impressed by a movie.
It builds up, starts very very slow,(almost boring) untill
it explodes and turns into a nightmare.
There's a lot of violence shown, but that wasn't exciting,
rather shocking.
Maybe the most spectacular thing about this movie is the
emotions in your head while watching!
I've never seen anything sick like this. (and that's why I
loved it so, because it made me feel things I never felt
before)
Also, the camera and editing were briliant! and so was the
photography and the script!

RECOMMENDED!!! (but not for your pleasure)

Read some about it on the official site!

I think its been given away in the trailer. And by the topic
starters comments. Damn I like to watch a movie not knowning
anything about the plot. Interesting still.

finaly after so many hollywood years Gus van Sant doesn't
make crap anymore.

They say that his other new film Gerry, is even more
mind-dazzling.

There are all these really long shots of people going from
point a to point b. Like a scene will end and then follow a
character for the next 3 or 4 minutes, showing the back of
their head and shoulders centered in the frame. I'd say
shots like this take up about half the film. It's a really
interesting way to submerse you in the environment. You
spend 95% film sinking deeper and deeper into the setting,
which makes the natural-by-means-of-amateurism acting much
easier to swallow, and the finale that much more powerful.

Best picture and Best Director at Cannes 2003 for a good
reason.

yeah i saw it a couple of weeks ago at the dendy cinemas
over here (they show all the art house and foreign
films...!)

anyway, it was a really powerful film, excelent come back to
the indie scene for Gus. But a lot of people in the cinema
came out complaining about "lack of story" "what was that
guy doing when..." and all this stuff, they just couldnt get
their heads around it.

But anyway, it was really excellent, but it isnt for
everyone. And yeah it was very emotional, and well
directed.

It is almost boring at first, but its all part of setting
the scene and helping you to know the characters.

But i wont give anything away, but i recommend seeing it.

Do you guys have cinemas around your areas that show all the
art house films etc? Because im so glad that we have Dendy
cinemas here, otherwise there would be no where to see all
these great films on a big screen.

i love beethoven.... forever. both tracks i can play back to
back with my eyes closed.

i never understood "benny" though.

other than that... i'd love to understand the mentality
behind it all.

what makes these people do things like so?

i really loved elephant but found gerry pretty boring (but
really boring, missing "characters", screenplay, ideas
behind nice images) but yeah, elephant is wiked (nice
soundtrak btw)

Benny provided a refreshing twist to the movie. The
audience thinks of him as a hero, walking through the
flames, helping a girl escape out a window and finally
approaching one of the armed young men. But in Elephant's
realistic portrayal of a school shooting, there are no
amazing superheroes; anyone, like Benny, can die.... IMO
