scratched cds

there is something pissing me off. all my cd's are getting
fucked up somehow. i take extremely good care of them (or
so i thought). i use one of those caselogic binder things
and never leave them out. they go straight from there to
either my discman or my car stereo. but now like half of my
cds are seriously fucked up and they skip. this is
seriously pissing me off. any advice?

i use one of the big binder things. it could just be the
material used in the holders. although i can't see them
selling something that scratches cd's. mine do get
scratched sometimes too, when i use the binder.

i looked up reviews for the skip dr but some people said
they permanently fucked up their cds. also from what i
understand this takes off layers of plastic, so it can only
be used a certain number of times.

search the messageboard for toothpaste. depending on how
bad the scratch is, it usually works.

i know what you mean, i keep my cds in perfect condition and
yet somehow scratch appears(always minor, only like 5 or
less of my 215+ cds skip even remotely(most cds are pristine
that i have)

remember when cd's first came out?, they said they were
superiour due to their scratch resistance and durability.
BULLSHIT!

i used to use one of those cd binders but it scrached up all
my cds (the scratches were minimal and didn't really affect
play, but i really don't like them) so i just keep all my
cds in their original cases on a cd rack now.

any friction with the playing surface risks scratching the
disc, even if it's a soft material, dust can accrue and
slowly scratch your discs.

i dislike jewel cases, they break too easily, etc etc but
still they are best for protecting your discs. or you could
just get slimline cd cases and store the artwork
separately...

copy all your music onto the hard drive of your computer so
that when it all comes crashing down you lose everything
that is precious to your ears.

just kidding... I mean you can always burn fresh copies
though. that's my strategem because scratches seem
inevitable

well, I usually keep all my cds in the cases... I figure
that's the best place for em... however, over here in the
netherlands the cds I've brought with me have all been in a
big binder thing, and I'm starting to get worried that
they're all getting scratched... I put on a couple the other
night, and they skipped a shit load... but the cd looks
fine, and plays fine in my portable player, so I assume it's
the landlords stereo which is fucked up...

its the scratch goblins, they sneak out of the floorboards
at night and scratch those cds up, word. you need to
discourage them by sprinkling pepper on the floor around the
cds, scratch goblins love to roll around on the floor naked
before getting to work. if you are woken in the night by
some high pitched squeeking, you know your cds are safe.

so i saw this stupid as system with small envelopes to put
them in, for 0,25 euro a piece! anywho: they said the jewel
cases brake down your cd's. they'll go to hell anyway
someday, not to far away
what's a binder?
should i trust those book-like thing's you can put them in?
is that a binder?

those binder things are what gives them scrathes over time,
just leave them in cases and be careful, i do that instead
now and I dont got any scratched cds.

have you ever killed someone who layed away on the playing
side. other way around can completely, somehow, screw a cd
up as well however.
i once lent rdj-album (which i still have to get back from
some other prick) to someone: he just dropped it in his bag,
without a case around it i mean! ai

the only reason i dont use jewel cases is because theyre so
inconvenient in a car.

k_maty: ah yes you are correct, I actually dumped my cd
player in my van for a tape deck cause I thought making
tapes would be fun, and it is! This way i dont have to take
any cds anywhere unless for some other reason, im just weird
about my discs.

I very rarely play the original CDs I own. If its for the
car, I'll burn a copy, and if I'm at home I'll have copied
ripped the CD to MP3 and play them on the PC

that happens to me too. be careful when you put your cd's
back into your case, or else you may accidentally scratch
them on the zipper track. also, i heard that putting the cd
booklets behind the cd's was bad for them. something about
the paper fibers scratching them...i dunno.

i had a strrange thing once when all the little spikes used
to hold the CD in place in my clearr CDs cases starrted to
fall clean out. i'd open the case and they would all fall
out, perrfectly snapped off. i don't know if it was the cold
orr what it was.

only some of the very first cds i have are scratched... yet
playing is not affected...

my copy of 'Time Machines' by Coil also has a little scratch
but i haven't heard it on the cd - i think it is due to the
slim cardboard packaging. slim cardboard packagings must
fuck your CDs up if you take them in and out of them to play
them too often...

i don't like putting my CDs in something else than the
original packaging but i did it for Time Machines. besides
if it would scratch and playing would be affected, i would
have difficulty buying another copy (like always with music
by World Serpent)...

binders = bad
cases = flimsy, but the lesser of 2 evils

i like the idea of burning/copying/ripping copies for every
available cdplayer/mdplayer/pooter.. if only there were
enough hours in the day.

jazembo - i clearly remember seeing an episode of tomorrows
world many years ago where they were talking about the
"cd-revolution".. they ran over one with a steam roller &
then it still played perfectly (allegedly).. so how come i
cant even touch mine with my fingers? or wipe the dust away
with anything other than an anti-stat cloth?

i too am funny about cd-care. leant a disc to my
ex-girlfriend a long time ago.. and it came back with nail
polish all over it.. she swore it wasnt hers & that she knew
nothing about it.
that wasnt the reason why we split up though.
i dont think im THAT petty..
