your favourite musicians, bands.. are they mostly american or english? or 50%?
do you prefer english to american musicians?
where do you think is nowadays the best music produced?
is there any diference really between english and american music?

ok.
I'm pretty much 50/50, when I was listening to metal and not much else - like, 5-10 years ago - it would be 90/10 in favour of the US. But most "IDM" I like seems to be UK based. And amazingly some decent UK guitar bands have popped up recently. I'm not really biased either way, and I don't think there's that's much difference between the major acts in genres these days. Maybe the Yanks are more obsessed with themselves lyrically.

I've thought about this too.. America is so big compared to the UK, but they seem to be stuck in some stupid electrical guitar hell.
There are some notable exceptions to the rule, of course.
I think it's about 60/30/10, with 60% UK, 30% other European countries and 10% US for me.
The US got the best contemporal composers though. Philip Glass, Steve Reich and Terry Riley for example. Too bad they get so much flak from the US media.

just recently though it's been a lot of icelandic, such as bjork, mum, and sigur ros.

the same can be said with "canadian bacon".. do they just call it ham? .. but then what do they call regular ham? is there really even a fuckin' difference?

most of the music I listen to is from uk, then germany, then canada, although theres some good american rock artists like brad laner of electric company, projects he's been associated with I also like so...
yea..
I think that country of origin does have a lot to do with the music
I mean, cultures have distinct sounds in their music, chums have to pawn their skills to different types of ladies :D

i don't understand why some people are acting hostile about this. i don't think the purpose of this topic was to prove the musical superiority of one race over others, but it is a matter of fact that most of the big "idm" artists from the uk.
i'm not sure of the country of origin of a lot of the music i listen to, but from what i do know im sure that more is from uk than any other country.
