Think about it, if you could make music like them do you
think you would? There are tons of people who emulate the
Aphex, Squarepusher et. al. type sounds but noone seems to
bother with ae even if they post saying how good they think
they are. Is it just a case of not being able to make music
like them (ie. too difficult) or is it that people don't
really want to make music that sounds that way.

Also do you think that if the gay weed smokers (thanks
hyakusen for the info :D) posted a new track on this site it
would get the same kind of reception that it would get if
they released it on an album. I'm not talking about the
quality of the music, more peoples attitude and willingness
to listen to new things.

i make music that's kinda like a crappier version of some of
their more recent stuff..
but i wouldn't do them.. and i think you know what i
mean..

I've tried in the past to emulate their style and I
couldn't. I listened to a track and tried to break it down
logically and I couldn't. i'd love to know more about how
they made their music though,

they inspire me, but that doesn't mean i'd emulate their
music. the message (if any) they seem to present is to
develop individually and do your own stuff. besides, there's
far less pressure in doing that than trying hard to be
someone you're not.

I think lots of people emulate AE, perhaps not as much as
Afx and Squarepusher but still a fair few. The later stuff
seems to crop up often in people's tracks on here and I
generally go "Well, that's a bit abstract for me, not my
thing" - whereas if it was on an AE album I'd probably give
it more time. The earlier stuff doesn't get copied as much
but when it does I tend to think "That's just a piss poor
rip off of Incunabula." Or something.

manticore: The Gay Weed Smokers are an autechre tribute band
from Poland.

k_maty: That wasn't the question

Yavo: That is exactly the way I think most people think on
the site. :)

funny, that. i'm originally from poland, actually. quite a
boistrous underground electronic scene down there as of
late, much to my surprise. but an AE tribute band? how
could you possibly "cover" AE, other than ripping them off?
'hmm, let's see if we can transpose all of confield into
sheet music notation and play it on guitars'

agreed! she's also hands down one of the nicest musicians i
have had the pleasure to meet! ... it very well could be
because she smokes copious amounts of weed onstage, but
personality-wise, i could totally see why she's the AE yoko
ono, only in a good way!

when i mentioned how i have a ridiculous amounts of AE in my
collection, but other than comp. tracks, not much of hers
(as at the time it was impossible to find in shops here),
she replied: "yeah, i've got all of it too, and more,
unfortunately"

no.
one Autechre is enough. : )

if i had enough talent and motivation to make music, i'd
rather play "real" instruments too... and maybe mix styles
if i can... or maybe play jazz... dunno.

me too man... I've always wanted to play bass... I really
should listen to Primus... that whole idea of the bass
guitar being the lead guitar is so cool... and I've always
prefered the bass...

Cheffe: how true...

Anyways, too many people do the 'oh, we're really abstract
and this is the music and it's not music but we won't give
an interview to explain what it is' route.

I know, that's not really how Rob & Sean act, but you see my
point.
