what do you recommend me?

what i want:
- one with a harddisk, not with cd's
- about 20Gb
- remote control would be nice(optional)
- pocket size (ofcourse)
- a mic would be very cool

i really like the ipod, but that thing is unbelievable
expensive.
anything like it would be very nice

You can get an Archos 20gb one... don't think it has a
remote, but it's cheaper than a 20gb ipod.

i have a 'Creative Nomad JukeBox 3', but i'd go for the
'Creative Jukebox Zen NX 30GB'...

My 20gb iPod is due to be delivered to me today... it costs
£276 with an educational discount, which i think is
actually less than the Creative Zen.

I have had to wait 3 weeks for it though after ordering it
direct from apple... demand is far outweighing supply at the
moment i think

I now have my iPod, and its amazing! Worth every
penny. I've now got a short wait while ill fill it with a
selected 20gb of my mp3 catalog :D

it really is tiny, and the touch sensitive buttons are
fantastic, meaning there are no moving parts

No moving parts in an ipod? What's that thing called they
store all the songs on? If it has no moving parts, then it
truly has a sucky battery life.

I have an MP3 player with no moving parts, except the LCD
crystals and the joystick, which I'm forced to move myself.
20 something hours playtime on one AA battery.

only problem with that Paco is that you cant store 20hours
of music on it so whats the point? :) it has an 8 hour
battery life i believe, which is pretty reasonable imo
considering what it actually is.

The HD obviously has moving parts - it seemed like we
were discussing HD mp3 players seen as Aesthetics originally
specified ~20gb capacity. I'm assuming yours is a solid
state mp3 player, which probably has a capacity of 256mb or
so. The point of having no moving parts on the controls is
so that they dont get full of crap and/or stop working.

offline Paco from Gothenburg (Sweden) on 2003-09-29 10:05 [#00882565]
Points: 2659 Status: Lurker

It is 256MB :)

Right now I have 32 songs in it. The battery lasts almost
two weeks worth of bus-rides to work. It's so small you can
wear it around your neck. I don't see the point in carrying
a HD around, when I already have a phone to take care of.

iPod > mobile phone

who needs communication when you have music

better than any of the others out there.

usb 2.0 (480 mbs)

Youse guys with hard disk or solid state mp3 players - sucks
after you've just bought a CD eh? :D

My Sony D-NE711 can play CDR/RW, CD, and for 50 cents, a
disk holds eight to ten albums worth of Lame VBR MP3s.
Sounds fucking amazing too.

Whenever I see those white headphones sticking out someones
pocket I suddenly feel compelled to mug them. Haven't yet,
but it's only a matter of time, they're asking for it.

new gen ipods:

support firewire, usb 2, usb 1.1
voice recorder (with optional mic accessory)

the 'beauty' of the ipod is not something captured in
statistics -- it is a beautifully designed, intuitive,
lightweight piece of magic. it behaves like a dream.. i'm
not used to technology working so well.

Today I received my personalized iPod :}

This peace of art is eyecandy for me,
and it works very easy.
Even the package is beautiful, and best of all this machine
fits in the "little watch pocket" in the front of jeans
(don't know the english word for it) but its the small
pocket in the pocket ;)

I also get Musicmatch Jukebox with it, now I can encode my
cd's with super tagging, its never been that easy before.
