Ok, I want to expand my music library... and so I thought an interesting way to go about it... would be, to get you guys to tell me what your #1 all time favorite CD, that you cant live without, is.
Seems good enough a way to base a reccomendation :-D
Thanks!

This is impossible, but the one that I seem to listen to the most would "Brownout" by Phoenecia.
There are more than this though, I promise. Just stating that it would blow to be without this album.

i really can't decide.
it's usually the newest Autechre CD, but since i like hiphop more now, i could easily say El-P - Fantastic Damage.
it's just impossible for me to trace my birthdate to present day and decide which CD is my ultimate favorite, cuz tastes can evolve.

Just one... that's actually pretty easy. The Beatles- White Album
A top ten list on the other hand, THAT would require a lot of deliberation and random selection.

Ah, I haven't heard anything off of that yet. I almost did the same thing, though. Thought it was some new EP with original tracks, etc.
Brownout's quality, man. The only other thing I have is the Randa Roomet EP which was released on Warp back in the day. It's good, too. I think everything else they've put out is scattered among comps and a few singles.

it's hard to name one single favorite.. Nas - "God's son" is good, and Xploding Plastix - "Amateur Girlfriends go proskirt agents" and "The famous biting guy EP" plus Jaga Jazzist - "A livingroom hush" and "The stix" and.. The roots - "Things fall apart"... and... Common - "Electric Circus" and... Wu-Tang Clan - "Iron flag" and "36 chambers/enter the wu" and so many more.

got that taken care of :-D
Actually... I never really got into the beatles until my senior year of highschool...
I went to paris with my friends... and I didnt bring my walkman... so I borrow my friends... and the white album was in it... I was like, meh, why not (we had to take an hour bus ride from where we flew in, to paris)
and I was listening... and I was just like... wow... this is... this is great!
Happiness is a warm gun, is the track that sealed the deal. Then I was like "GIVE ME MORE!"
hehehehe

Good man! I remember my first time hearing it, it was a cornucopia of every style possible and I wept.
I knew you'd already heard that one, but I want to be somewhat useful, so try out The Soft Boys- Underwater
Moonlight. Maybe my favorite album ever by a group not named The Beatles. I like pimping it.

Seefeel's music has a special place in my heart. You should most certainly download Quique (hypnotic guitar-based ambient pop kinda stuff) and CH-VOX (dark, minimalistic ambient. this EP is seefeel's last release ever so it has a special meaning to me). These are deleted so you can't purchase them anymore.
Succour is still available on warp and various online shops.
NIN - Further down the spiral (if you like industrial violence) is also one of my very favourite CDs

Staggeringly great. White hot noise and beautiful melody, warm, lovely and quite harsh all at the same time. There's not a note out of place but it's very loose too. If you haven't got it, then buy it you must (and BUY it, mp3 doesn't do MBV justice).

well lets see, I guess the two that really come to mind are Passion by Peter Gabriel and Music has the Right to Children by Boards of Canada... the latter of which I know you own...
Passion is the pinnacle for me though... I've had it for years, and it's till fresh and amazing... I probably listen to other albums more then this one, but nothing is better as far as I'm concerned... it's emotionally draining I find, but ends on a positive uplifting note... you can't really go wrong with it, unless you're completely against world music! :)
It's quite fantastic!

yeah i have both...magic thread is a bit different from his other work...very minimalistic, he didnt use many sounds there, more like loops going on forever - but really put together excellently!
grinning cat has some brilliant tunes...great use of piano sound with electronica...you think you heard it all, and the next sound that comes in just puts you over the top
and i wouldnt miss the "image" (cant remember the dates exactly)...i was avoiding that one for a long time, but when i heard it for the 1st time, i was sorry i waited that long...
yokota is an amazing artist!

Tom Waits - Mule Variations
seriously this CD is packed solid. From "hold on" to "cold water" and a little bit of "the house where nobody lives" and a little splash of "whats he building" for good measure.
I listen to it often. Good CD while drinking. :)
