Yeah, it's just so unreal. Nothing else like it. The end makes me so sad I start crying in agony for some weird reason. Perhaps I'm insane, and this is the only movie I can relate to.

Europe is being denied the definitive DVD release of this because of copyright laws, so if you want the best version get the region one. It's the only Lynch film I haven't seen I think in fact. I liked the main guy in Twin Peaks a lot though. "There was a fish in the perculator!"

if you love strange visuals and textured sounds, you'll love Eraserhead.
if that isn't very important to you, you probably won't like it.
and then ofcourse there's the strange logic of the universe presented in the film..

the one that costs $40? the one that'll cost you $40 to ship to you?

The industrial wasteland is so grey and depressing -- it's great. It really makes you feel happy you live in the world today.
I also think that Fats Waller's music adds something definitive to the film.
David Lynch is my media studies teacher's assistant's favourite direcotr, so I get to speak to him about it a lot.

I got my facts a little confused...
From Empire:
David Lynch has spent four years restoring his disturbing debut Eraserhead for DVD. However, he's not allowed to sell it to you. The pristine letterbox transfer is packaged in a delicious Lynch-designed 82x82 square box, also containing a lavish 20 pge booklet and a feature length on camera interview with the direcot inwhich he relates the story of the film's remarkable five-year gestation and birth.
Normally you could buy it online at Lynch's web site. However, because Universal (who currently distribute the version available in the UK) retains ownership of the UK DVD rights until August 31, 2008, you won't be able to legally order it - and don't even bother trying - for another give years.
"We are trying to sort out the British deal" is all Lynch will, though his frustration at the ubiquity of inferior copies is evident. "It would probably make me sick if I saw it", he recently said of the Japanese edition, despite it's superiority to the flickery transfer available in the UK. Of course, if you have a friend in the US, or can drop by Amoeba Records in LA... just don't say we encouraged you.
Only the UK has the problem then, not Europe. I wonder if you're allowed to sell it on ebay then...

I wanted to order the remastered Eraserhead soundtrack from mr. Lynch's site, only $15, which I thought was reasonable.
sadly, the shippingcost is the same for everything.
$40 for a cd? fuck off.
that said, Alan Splett, who did all the sounddesign on Lynch's movies up till Lost Highway (Lynch did his own sounddesign on that one) was a genius.
there's a boxed set with his soundscapes made for Lynch, but it was priced somewhere around $200.. yet again: fuck off.
