have heard on tv. its in light of the downfall in record sales due to so many people downloading stuff of the net. I think they're worried people are gonna stop buying cd's and want to compete. Me personally, i do download a lot, but i would much prefer a cd as it always has a higher quality sound than mp3. |

Agreed. I stopped buying cds cause all the ones I want are like 26$ cause I live in some dump of the east coast of Canada. CD prices are shit. They brought it upon themselves. |

Exactly. All the albums that I want are imports and most record stores in Toronto add about $10-15 in addition to the import price. How would you like to pay $36 for Feed Me Wierd Things? That's how much HMV wanted to charge me. If I order imports online, I save quite a bit, but these fuckers are still way over-priced. I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS buy my CDs. I've finally run out of money, and CDs are too expensive, and now I'm downloading them - something I thought I would never do. |

its what i do i pay about 17.5 EUR for ones i get in the shop, tho i buy most of cd's online and because of that i have to pay the import tax and some weird post expenses (additional cost for our post office-not for delivery) well, we'll join the EU next year, so i'll be getting them on normal price...hopefully |

Here's what Sam Rosenthal, the owner of Projekt Records, had to say about this: "I think cheaper CDs are a great idea; but before I get to that, I'd like to mention a mathematical flaw in this plan. Wherein stores used to pay $12.02 for CDs, Universal will now charge them $9.09. If you do the quick math, Universal is making $3 less than they used to, but by asking stores to sell CDs for under $10, they are hoping stores take a $7 to $9 hit. At $9.98, stores would only earn 91¢ profit. Stores would need to sell seven+ times as many CDs to make the same amount of money as they do now *and* Universal is going to stop paying co-op (the system by which store's advertising is paid for by the labels). To me... this could appear as a way for Universal to bleed the last few bucks out of retail, before putting the nail into the coffin. I cannot imagine a store surviving on 91¢ profit per unit, unless, miraculously, CD sales increase about 800%." |

so then we can all order them online, what's the difference to me? CD stores now sell CD-Rs, DVDs, vinyl, etc. they'll stay in business for however long they want to. I don't feel sorry for any independent stores one bit, they could have kept prices lower when they were paying $12.02 for CDs, but they charged $5 extra, so fuck 'em. |

meh. i dislike universal and its product anyways. it just means the playing field will be level, pricewise, for indie and mainstream labels. at least i hope. god i hate this new avatar already. switching to something else. |

It's a good chance he ment US dollars.. So for us Australians, he's saying that he paid $55.95(AUD) :S $36AUD = $23.16(USD) |

i think people have been spoiled by their profound wealth. maybe if cd's cost $100 each you wouldn't take them and the joy they bring you for granted. |
