dunno how many folks are into UNDERGROUND comic's a la Crumb, etc..
but this movie about Harvey Pekar (and featuring the 'real dood' in several hilarious moments) was great. it was startling in it's reality and very sad as well. it was strange how real people who were depicted in his comic's became these cultural icons due to MTV ....uughgh i think making fun of Toby was a really LOW moment in the history of MTV (are there any high moments tho, really)
anyway big ole thumbs up to this movie, it's not life changing, but it's a slice or a REAL life....just like the comic it's based on.

i have no idea what any of that meant at all. but yes there is ONE high point of MuchMusic (canadian mtv) which was playing Windowlicker and Come On My Selector in the same half hour and getting me into idm and such.
that's all though. apart from that, tv blows

I saw it a month or so back at the Melbourne International Film Festival. I really enjoyed it and I hadn't heard about the comics before. It got a good response from the audience as well.

I loved it. Hope Davis was terrific - she made the movie. She was also great in About Schmidt. If she hits a home run in The Secret Lives of Dentists she'll have to be considered the first great actress of the new millennium.
Did you notice that the guy who played Toby used the voice of Comic Book Guy the whole time? The real Toby's voice wasn't quite so exaggerated, was it?

i've never read the comic....but the underground comic scene is where great ideas were and still are born!
i'd like to read the story he wrote about his ordeal with cancer.....i'm sure thats very harrowing =/

Saw this last night at the cinema. Other than Crumb, I don't really know much about underground comics, but this film was pretty good. Enjoyable, but also understandably sad at times.

Yeah, it was dope.
I love that scene where Harvey Pekar goes home and decides to start making his own comic and he draws those stick figures.
And the inner-cut scenes of the actual characters on the set of the movie were awesome too.

the first time you see the real tony and realize that he's exactly like the actor playing him is great
