hey... kids... I've never tried absinth but I wanna know about it - some claim you can get an "absinth effect" from it - meaning more than a regular "drunk" effect... so what's your story, etc? I'm fucked up right now... but I'll be posting here for another hour, or so... |

traditionally there are hallucinogens, in it, but nowadays they usually aren't in it, or are in much lesser portions, and the main drugs like wormwood are taken out, depending on what country you live in.. you could still probably find some of the real stuff, but you'd have to purchase it illegally. maybe the real stuff not being available is a good thing, though.. i mean.. you don't want to lose an ear, do you? |

eh, where am I suppose to get hold of it... anyway, the question here is really wether or not you can get more out of "alcohol" than jus the regular "buzz".... I mean if you can get hallucinations from absitnh; you can - but if it's just a myth --- yuo cannot. |

the uk stuff, at least, has a mild psychoactive effect; me and my mate saw stars and stuff when we looked at the light, like distortions of what was really there rather than acid or mushroom type trips. but careful cos to get the best effect dont burn or sugar it, which meant that when i was at the reading festival i drank a bottle of absynth and one of whisky and when i woke up in the morning it was monochrome: it was all grey cos i had dehydrated my eyes... ouch |

There are now different types of Absinthe where illegal products have been replaced with none illegal products to make it legal. In effect it also makes it taste like crap and has little decent effect. |

i'm sure i wrote something here not that long ago bout drinkin absynthe but here goes the same story, absynthe has been illegal 4 a long time here, and for a moment they let the real stuff through (now its a lil watered down) and you were only supposed to have two shots. well, i had my two shots, took myself off with my friends and had a good ol smoke of th greenz n came back for two more shots, i generally remmeber my nights even when i hae projectiled, but i can only remember i was feelin pretty damn good that night and a lot is a blur, my head punded the next day, but hey if someone had a bottle i'd b swiggin. as far as the hallucinations shit was a lot different on absynthe n weed, give my recomendations thats 4 sure. |

I drink a lot of Absinthe. You can get alright stuff here from the Hapsburg brand. I usually drink the stuff my mate gets from Spain though. Absinthe is illegal in France and I think also Sweden. If you smoke weed with it it gives an incredibly flouresent glow to your sensory perceptions. I like it very much but the other day I over did it a bit. I mixed it with some of this guarana root with coffee. I didn't go to bed until 0500 and I had to be up for work at 0900. It's a good thing I work in a hospital because I honestly thought that I was going to die and I took myself down to A&E. I think Absinthe is a quality experience but, like other vices, should be respected and moderated. |

Good Lad! Key Secret: Erm, I saw Aphex at ATP after drinking the best part of a bottle of La Fee (68% strength) in a day. I drank the stuff over too long a period to get much of the absinth effect, but ended up just being very, very drunk. In the past when I've drunk half a bottle in a couple of hours I've got giggly and more perceptive than usual. I was reading in New Scientist this month that a plant closely related to Wormwood (Absinthe's principle ingredient, after alcohol) had cancer fighting properties. Hopefully normal wormwood does too :D |

Wormwood - in Sweden called "Malört" grows in the wild here Key Secret and is/was one of the main ingredients in Absinthe - the root bit of the plant I think. However, as far as I know there has not been any psychoactive ingredients in Absinthe since Strindberg lived - perhaps the experiences nowadays are more due to the Placebo effect. You can actually buy this stuff at Systembolaget but it's probably a weak in alcohol kind, and it's very expensive. |

You can still buy Absinthe with Thujone in, in the UK and a few other countries! It seems to be a popular myth that you can't. What is different to "old Absinthe" is the amount, nowadays 10mg of thujone per litre is the maximum you're allowed = you need to drink a lot of the stuff in a short space of time to get the effect. |
