..what do you mean..?

I have to say yay or nay to a discog that's not finished?

seems kind of pointless..

i dont like it. I said nay. Its too overly informative. Lose
the 'artists' column and i'll vote yay. Plus i didnt see
Pole on there. Hot diggity. Nice to see the site really IS
in development though.

well, Schematic is still sorely missed - not one of the
smallest labels either.

also I would like it more if you can put something in your
recordbag from the general list - now I have to click the
name, then click recordbag, then click Back etc.

it get's tiresome if you own more than 10 records.

I like it...its very informative

its going in the right direction...

but i agree with qrter on the record bag... its too much
work.

If you just had a page, with a list of all the releases...
and you checked which ones you had, and hit submit... that
would be much better imo

I voted yay, but as others have brought up, there are some
key groups missing. Like Mick Harris projects (Scorn,
Quoit, etc., but hopefully it'll be there when finished).

im not saying its bad, im just saying it seems to be too
much. If a newbie comes looking, they're gonna look at
'artists' for aphex twin, not aliases.

"Its too overly informative"
It's a discography, it's supposed to have lots of info. You
basic and sometimes incorrect info go to discogs.com.
I said Yay. It has it's needs of improvement, but for being
very incomplete it's pretty damn good.

I didn't notice Schematic was missing until you pointed it
out.... it definitely deserves to be in there. Otto Von
Schirach and Devine, c'mon!

question...

will info about the artists be added? Like a bio, and
history etc?

Reviews of the albums, like on allmusic.com?

offline chapman from United Kingdom on 2003-08-11 14:27 [#00817911]

of course it is is over informative, you are looking
at a preview of the advanced method of
browsing the discography. all the criticism i have read so
far in all the threads about the discog have been
complaining about things that will not be an issue when it
is finished. so relax!

well, I would hope that a resource for electronic music,
would have more then just a discog.

I want more info!

To those who've posted to complain about various omissions
I'd like to point out the fact that we already stated that
the discog was only about 5% complete. What you're looking
through is a preview not the full thing.

The navigation/code/etc is also still a work in progress to
a certain extent too.

All good ideas will be looked at equally.

I agree with qrter that the "add to record bag" button
should be next to each entry in the search results rather
than just in the detail page. I've got loads of records and
adding them one by one like that is plain annoying.

I also think that the "type" entry should appear in the
search results list too, so it is immediately obvious if
you're looking at a regular or promo item for any given
release: essential in those situations where the other
visible fields all appear idential. (If that don't make no
sense I guess I could try to explain better)

so is the answer to my question: NO?

The answer to your question is yes (for bios).

Though not all will be added at once, and some may not be
added at all, depending on availability of information. If
we can get a bio (and it's nice) we'll use it.

As for reviews... I can't say (cos I don't know). Phob would
know more about that.

i have a mixed advice, so i didn't vote

- on the one hand, that's a pretty colossal work done, it's
quite impressive and seems very good! but... on the other
hand, i don't think the interface very very practical, the
windows for selection of artists/aliases are too small
imo... (and i'd have put just one window for artists and
aliases, but that's just my opinion - for example, when i
search for let's say squarepusher, i think of "squarepusher"
as the name of the artist, not "tom jenkinson"...) - plus
it's a bit bleak, the aphextwin.nu old discography was much
appealing!

but again this is just my opinion... =)

you see a list of releases. you click on the name of the
release you have and there, as if by magic, you can add it
to your recordbag! the button should be down-right.

cant seem to find the "put in recorbag" icon! i cant reply
either...could there be a link?

whoa! i didnt expected this kind of response...

as i read all the messages i have to agree its a pretty
pointless poll, since loads of your complainments are solved
in the final discography.

its also no point for me to comment this lot since
everything's will be changed.

maybe releasing the preview WAS a bad thing to do.

for me it was a good thing to do... its just that people
seemed not to understand that it was all kind of
circumnstancial.

people use to feel they are more interesting when they find
"errors"
