...because my PC is fuckered. Well to cut a long story
short I've managed to narrow my comps continuous crashing
problem down to one bizarre thing: scrolling.

Before, it used to just stop responding for no reason, but
now, any time I am scrolling... it could crash the whole
fucking computer.

Yes the thing is a pile of shite with one of the worst OS
going (guess), but please is there anything I can do
rather than reinstall Windows for the Millenniumth time??!!
Which I refuse to do at this stage.. I believe the settings
may somehow be to blame.

Millennium, ick. Get 98se or 2k.

MILLENNIUM IS INHERENTLY UNSTABLE

Some people claim they can get it to run reliably; they can
fedex themselves their own genitals for all I care.

http://www.annoyances.org

this site is great for all your windows (any version)
troubles! Check it, I'm sure
you will find your answer there,
this site is great.
You can also use it to boost your OS, and do stuff to
improve it / get rid of annoyances :)

UPDATE:

So it was my graphics card... the problem only seems to
occur when I have the 1024x700 or whatever (you know the one
I mean). I have it 800x600 right now and it's working pretty
smooth.

I don't get it though, 1024xbla used to work great for me, I
could fit everything on the screen!

yep... I don't know how well the feedback actually works
(questions I've had have already been answered [they have a
really nice searchfunction]) but it seems to work real nice
- and the answers you get are ofthen very good!

For God's sake, drop ME like a hot potato.

If your software supports it, use 2000, otherwise fall back
to 98SE.

Just installed DirectX 8.0a... is this essential or
something?

Whale: I'm on that Windows2000 thing. I've witnessed its
stability...they use it on the computers at school. Task
Manager and whatnot? Well sexy.

you can get ME to run well to (but Win2000 is way better)...
just check that site I posted a link to.

Latest news from the house of pain that is my life: STILL
the same problem. So it's not the display. What the fuck can
it be?? It's not just during scrolling now either.. it seems
like sometimes the computer gets excited while loading
things and then just blows its load (crashes). Is this the
hard drive or something?

No idea :s

Random crashes are almost always driver related. I suggest
updating all your drivers, including any service packs and
patches for your motherboard. (Always read the instructions
carefully though!)

But more than anything else, I seriously recommend getting
rid of Win ME. Go for 2000 or 98SE. Perhaps even XP since
I've never had any problems with that at all.

If you can imagine an elephant's fecal waste after it's
gorged on vindaloos for a fortnight and has the worst case
of the skitters you can think of, that's about what Win ME
is like.

I don't have any problems with WinMe. On the slight
offchance you're running Kazaa, remove it any any associated
crap. That will improve the performance of anyone's
computer.

I'm having the hard drive replaced :s

Watch this space. And people, I'd love to get a different
OS, but can someone first borrow me £199.99?

dude. Just if you want a new OS, no need to pay any cash.
Not saying you should get it illegally, but instead I'm
trying to tell you to get your hands on LINUX!!!

Get Linux. Works perfectly.
Your puter will love it :)
