I consider aphex the real genious of electronic music...
even though many times I seem to prefer autechre... at the
end aphex is the only one that reaches some genious status
imo...

what other artists do you think are somehow similar to aphex
in the other art expressions (painting, sculpture,
architecture, photography...)

in architecture I think I would compare him with koolhas

no one
aphex is just like me

the art of perception

the view in which others see you

he has mastered it, as have i :) and it works wonders.

Aphex is a good musician in a bland scene, I wouldn't class
him as a genius because I think the word is far too
overused.

aphex is really talented...
but he does these stupid things all the time - he does have
a weird sense of humour...
but yeah I love a lot of his work, especially the short
albums (rdj album/come to daddy) and drukqs.
Actually I don't own "I care because you do"... should I buy
it as soon as possible?

I haven't listened to "ICBYD" either =/
dunno why, it has been kept away from me.

Ok ICBYD and I care because you do, same album. (i do think
you know this, but it seems kind of confusing what you
write?!?)

Anyway, when you get used to it, it is a truly brilliant
album. I really listen 2 it a lot!

ICBYD is the album that makes RJ seem like such a genius to
me... Along with the SAW albums - ICBYD is really "arty"
sounding to me. I'd rate it as his most interesting work,
and most melodic in places.
I'd actually say Kurt Cobain has a similar thing going on
too - Obviously a very different perspective musically, but
he was pushing boundaries and doing it all for his own
satisfaction... Very reminiscent of RJ to me actually.

hehe. no I what I meant was:
in my first post I wrote "I don't own", and then I wanted to
make clear that I hadn't listened to it either...
I have heard a couple of tracks though... and they were
good.

kubrick for film

Woah, woah! C'mon, Kubrick's a good director, but he was
not one to break new ground. Don't get me wrong, he was
fantastic and he has some phenomenal films under his belt,
but there's just no way he compares to the aphex asystematic
approach to his art form. A good example for film would be
Jean Luc Godard, whose films emphasize the fun and joy of
filmmaking while still making sense and being enjoyable! :)

I consider no-one as a genius. In the end it all comes down
to your own imagination. Thinking someone's a genius is just
based on your own point of view and that view can change
over the years. Richard d james isn't a genius, he's a
genius for my mind. It's all about your way of thinking and
not his.

the guy who invented the wheel was a genius. think about it,
would you have come up with it back then? (now, it would be
a tad arrogant to say 'yes' :P)

do you mean Remco Koolhaas, the dutchie..? his name is
spelled with 2 a's.. :)

anyway.. I hardly EVER use the term genius. I would
certainly NOT call RDJ that.
only person I have thought of as being a genius recently,
must be mr. David Lynch. and I feel uncomfortable using that
term even when I believe it to be correctly used.

rdj isn't a genius, a prodigy maybe and has the sense of
humour to fuck around with his rep, whereas most "geniuses"
(or is it genii) take themselves too seriously
