Renoise (tracker)

god, i love trackers! i've been waiting for a "pro quality"
tracker for a long time. the Impulse Tracker 3 project is
dead now, it was suppose to be the first tracker to match up
to the pro software sequencers like Cubase.

Few days ago i found RENOISE, which is what i've been
waiting for. MIDI / VST instrument and effects support
(YAYY!),automation and other cool features

anyone using it? trackers are the best thing for creating
drill'n'bass, so you might want to try Renoise

and what exactly makes them the best for making drill?

ive used trackers before - but i didnt really notice
anything other than its a vertical version of floops with a
windows-esque gui - i have no problem with it - but floops
is almost just a tracker with pretty pictures and extra
features :P

go to the directory where renoise is, open the 'help' folder
and there's a helpfile you can read. It's important to learn
all the keyboard shortcuts. You won't be able to do amazing
things with it right at first. Just learn how everything
works and in time it will be very easy and fun to use. Beat
Programming is expecially fun to do with a tracker

Renoise is the best piece of music software I've ever used!
It is ideal for electronic music - Logic/Cubase style
programmes are still really designed for recording bands and
are way to fiddly - Renoise is just like using hardware - I
can write a track in a day now - Used to take me weeks with
Logic.
Trackers are the only things you should even attempt to do
drill(style) programming on - I only tried them out because
I couldn't figure out how Snares was doing such incredible
beat programming and using such interesting time sigs - I
couldn't figure out how he was so prolific - In Logic it
would take me months to recreate that style of programming
properly.

Very interesting indeed, I will get on the case asap!

Cheers for bringing this to my attention Baslsam/Swift.

I would have prob thrown this one in the recycle bin.

I downloaded it prolly over a month ago and had the same
experience as Rambling Madman. I couldn't even get it to
place a note. I could get it to play sounds by hitting the
keys but other than that it seemed paralyzed. This is not
because it's a tracker either, I love trackers and use Buzz
primarily. This one just really confused me.. mainly cuz I
couldn't get started.
However, I will give it another shot now because it *did
*look extremely effective. And I agree.. beat programming
on trackers is the only way to do it. :)

i think there is no difference between them... modplug can
support VST too! dont forget it!

I used renoise as trackers were the only thing I knew since
the good ol' amiga days. But Renoise was buggy as a mofo so
I quit using it.

All the time I was waiting for fasttracker 3 to come out,
but in the meantime I've learned to use reason and now I
don't need a tracker anymore.

A close music making friend of mine pointed me towards
Renoise. It's wonderful. I'd recommend it as the second
thing to anyone after Buzz (and I can imagine more people
being happier with Renoise than Buzz too)

offline J Swift from United Kingdom on 2003-07-15 16:33 [#00780440]

I've actually found Renoise to be erriely stable - It's
certainly not buggy these days. (I'm waiting for it to crash
one day and make me lose three hours work... my experience
of most sequencers).
I don't really rate Reason too high for anything except
straight-ahead dance/trance music.
I really love trackers now - I used to always be pissed off
at my computer - Logic/P.Tools used to crash and have all
these wierd quirks - Also, I hate using those graphical
arrange things, just end up doing the most predictable shite
on them - Doesn't look/feel right if you've got a really
repetative tune on there and it's just three tracks copy'ed
and pasted over and over - Makes me feel like I'm being lazy
or something, so I start writing bridges and builds and end
up with a pile of crap Trance tune or something...
Renoise is the only piece of software/hardware I really
couldn't live without.
It looks hardcore too when you're using it - If I'm using
Reason it looks like I'm playing some kind of Sony
DanceBuilder 2000 or something - I know that's stupid
though!
