radiohead...another go

i bought hail to the thief today - i didnt hear the record
before today
i posted something about not liking radiohead a few months
ago and i bought this anyway (a special edition copy even
hehe)...looks pretty stupid

anyway, i actually like 2 or 3 songs...the rest is pretty
much just to fill in the space left - tho i might change
opinion on this as well after a few more listens

i'd perhaps like it even better if it wasnt by
radiohead-they are way over hyped imo (does it sound
ridicuolus already?)

that CD gets better eveytime i listen!

keep listening, you'll soon see that EVERYSONG is a
masterpiece, and NOT filler! =0)

No mate, they ARE over-hyped.

Don't feel ridiculous just because you try to understand
what you appear to be missing that everyone else is into and
you at first, were not.

But feel free to feel ridiculous if you then fly the flag
just because everyone else is.

My own thought is this: popularity kills music for me.
It's why I went into denial over Bob Marley and Nirvana.
Maybe I'll find I do really like Radiohead in 10 or 15 years
time if I'm still alive.
Hopefully not :)

I really don't believe radiohead is over hyped. I find them
to be one of the only hugely popular musical units out there
right now who have trully earned their hype.

would make a difference

To me, they just sound a little BLAND after most other stuff
i listen to. Low do the spinechillin emotion thing much
better, BoC kick their ass on the floaty electronics,
there's plenty of ppl out there with better voices than
thom... i did used to like them a lot (first band i ever saw
live) but it's waning now a bit.
Not heard the new album yet tho.

I don't like their new stuff as much as their old stuff but
there is no denying that they are very talented and I don't
begrudge them any bit of the success they have had.

If you allow popularity to kill music for you then you are
not really into the music in the first place, you are into
the image that comes along with it.

ok...in that case i just dont enjoy their music much

i love nirvana - and they were like the most popular band in
their time

i love massive attack, aphex, blur's last album,
cardigans...so i guess it must have to do with music

HTTT is a bit overrated imho. would have been a much better
album if they had just removed the filler tracks (We suck
young blood, I will, Wolves from the door) The rest is
pretty cool tho. the gloaming would have been on that list
too but the album version, as opposed to the rough internet
version, eh, rocks.

If anything was dumb it was your lack of perception or
inexperience of the FACT that there are people out there who
have a list of musics that they think they should be into
just so they appear to themselves/others that they have
taste/are cool.

If you cannot grasp this I suggest you read Alexander Pope's
Of The Use Of Riches, particularly the part about
persons who collect libraries just for show.

listened to there there for the first time today.

boring! Sounds like the last CD the Pumpkins put out, which
was pretty bad.

It's sonic guitars, with obvious talent, but souless. That
crooning gets old too.

is this the same band that put out Ok Computer?

That is true for some perhaps, but it's not always the
case.

For me, I like to discover music for myself sometimes as
well as have it recommended.
Well, a few years ago some persons I was hanging out with
were into Beefheart. I knew little of his stuff at the time
but it was rammed down my throat so much I couldn't enjoy
it.

As far as Nirvana and Bob Marley go in my case, it is the
fact that although I can see they were good, I found it hard
to rave about them when their posters were on every bloody
wall at university and there were people wearing their T
shirts who didn't know their arse from their elbow when it
came to music.

If you STILL don't see what I'm getting at, wait til AFX
REALLY goes into the mainstream via one of those banks ads
and TWAT FM plays a tune to death until you give in and look
elsewhere cos of the foul taste in your mouth.

I love much popular music that is liked by many, so I don't
think I'm being a snob, I'm just trying to describe some
point about over-saturation or something.

just remember, it's a good thing to check something out that
everyone else talks about and seems to enjoy, but if you've
given it an honest listen and some time and don't like it,
that is totally fine. don't ever feel pressured to like
something cos everyone else does. i can't stand most beastie
boys songs and i don't feel i'm missing out on anything.
same thing really. even though radiohead are my favorite
band and i can totally see why people wouldn't like them.
it's just an acquired taste, and it either hits the spot or
it misses.

thing about radiohead that bothers me is that there is

That's probably why I don't like them: their stuff appears
to have already been covered by two or three other bands
already.. they remind me of a cross between Pink Floyd and
The Smiths with maybe some other ingredients I can't think
of right now.
I have to admit I haven't heard ALL of their stuff so what I
just said would no doubt sound to an enthusiast as blatant
ignorance..
The bottom line though is every time I hear that whiny guy
sing I feel the urge to be violent towards him :/

As in: "Come 'ere so I can slap ya you whiny little
bastard".

At least Morrissey had the decency to be witty..

Man I hate people who snivel and cry.
If there was room on the life-raft for one more person I
sure as hell wouldn't pick some sniveller upon whom one's
life might depend.

I think there's a lot of Beatles, Bowie and Madness in
Blur's stuff, but they do it in a way that is like carrying
on a tradition of great quirky English songwriting.

the thing about radiohead is, it either strikes an emotional
chord or doesnt. its not something you can very well
rationalise. it reminds me of david lynch's films, it either
clicks with you, or doesnt. sometimes people hate it, then
all of a sudden love it. its strange. there are other
artists like this too. i love thigs that grow on you over
time. those are some of the best things.

stuff get self-titled or 'parklife'.

Well corngrower, for imho a better option than Parklife but
in the same vein go for Modern Life is Rubbish.
It was made just before Parklife, when they were darlings of
the music press but the masses hadn't got it yet.
The production is most excellent and songwriting is similar
in style to that of Parklife except perhaps a tad less radio
friendly.

Just avoid most tracks on The Great Escape, as although
there may be one or two good ones.. it's mostly stodgy and
uninteresting.
(They made it just after winning loads of mainstream acclaim
and that was the point at which Oasis took over -
apparently)

blur is nothing like radiohead, i dont see how anyone could
compare aside from the both being british. think tank is a
pile of shit, my god, and it sounds nothing like radiohead.
just my opinion though, i dont seem to like httt as much as
ok computer, kid a or amnesiac but it has its moments. its
a solid album and everything is fine with it but theres
still something missing, it seems that the lyrics on this
album are too focused on specific things and cause the
listener less interpretation, anyone else agree to that?

im really interested in hearing in what way think thank is
nothing like radiohead?
to me music sounds quite the same - melancholic melodies,
electronic sounds, very simmilar interpretation by damon and
thom...
perhaps the lyrics is different, but sound is quite
simmilar
im not saying this for previous blur releases tho - those
are different

its weird you say think thank is shit and radiohead are
brilliant, cos there really isnt that huge difference imo
i love think thank, i like httt less - but still i dont
think its bad - there are some nice songs on the album
