every tracks on this release lacks in some way for me.

i like some parts of the remix, especially the new "bärng
bärng" bassline and what rich did with the voices.
but the drill was done very crappy imo.
sounds like a messed up amen, sounds like evryone could do
it.
i got to admit that the first time i heard it i had to get
up and jump to the beat.
rating: maybe 5/10

ktpa1 is good. im not much into noise but this is what it
let me feel:
min. 1: oh this is noise but my ears are fine. felt kinda
whoaa aggressive!
later: interesting sounds
later: nice noisy "rhythm" almost wanted to dance or at
least nod the had in quick spastics
later: i had to laugh
at the end of the song i went through all these moods and
thoughts, which is my prove that this song is worthwhile
listening to.
i had to think of a complex mathematical equation and though

i didnt know why i somehow believe i had similar feelings in

those songs.

kpta2 (gotta listen again)
mediocre after one listen (too high noise)

i dont think this is a very good release,
think about NOT buying this

ok there's been enough threads where ppl tell their opinion
of this ep. why don't people use the search function?

matter of fact, im about to start a new topic right fucking
now about Smojphace!!!!!

Chill!!! let everyone start a new topic about smojphace if
they want to its a fucking new AFX release we talking about
for christs sake (its not like me making a new review about
my best friends independent unreleased rock ep its the king
of electronic music for heavens sake).

NOW LEAVE ATOP ALONE (and everyone else making smojphace
topics, we need to discuss this one, its good for our mental
health, its much better than porn and shit topics like
that)!!!!!

"king of electronica"

and every new thread is opened just to say that it sucks...

offline AlbertoBalsalm from Reykjavík (Iceland) on 2003-06-18 01:57 [#00745726]

we don't have to discuss it in 6930000036000 threads!!

it would be intresting if people were pointing out new stuff
or intresting thoughts but every new thread are (negative
mostly) personal reviews of the release

I think the key to understanding the MEN label is the amount
of DJing that AFX does nowadays....(as DJ Smojphace
etc...)...

He's making tracks to play out...certainly not to make any
money from (anyone seen any promotion anywhere???)...

and these are tracks he personally loves (and are worthy of
the AFX treatment..)..

Even the ktpas work when you consider them as part of
something to be mixed with, rather than listened to as an
individual piece....listen to the end of RTPR and you can
hear noise used it that way (and I do love that ending as
the noise takes over...)...

Anyways...just a couple of thoughts as this feeble mind
tries to put the ep in perspective....

all i can say is men 1 is way better

track 1 is the bomb
track 2 is ok-ish at least
and track 3 hurts.

I go with Jand it is a personal release,
DJ Friendly Mix. A white label.

O.K. He could release it under another name, but I think his
sound is so distinctive or people would 'out' him being such
a big name. The fuss would be taken away from the music and
the hype/speculation would become major issue.

We all know this from the past heavy speculation of anything
vaguely AFX sounding. You have got to remember and respect
it is the first time he can release purely what he likes
unlike the constrains on Rephlex / Warp (Be more DJ fashion
conscious if you like). Without worrying about the label
'sound' or respecting the other artists on it.

I was a Sonar 2001 (Plus the Lighthouse party) and will be
going to Glastonbury expecting the same Hardcore DJ mishmash
/ Wall of sound. It does work the 'noise' thing loud and
mixed as Jand rightly says. It was not conceived for you
bedroom jockeys just to get your parents to tell you to turn
that shit off.

Peace

You speak sense Jand. First time I listened to it I was
thinking how nicely you could mix it with some other stuff.

I should add that how easy would it have been for AFX to
release it on a limited 12" or white label that everyone
would end up paying 100s for on Ebay...

Props to ya, Rich...long may you continue to confound &
stretch, and walk your own path...nothing worst than an
artist who listens to his fans & tempers their work to some
tiny niche....Something I don't think anyone could accuse
Rich of...
