They really are stupid. When will people realise that the
cost of copy protection is never recovered in the few loses
it deters? This goes for software as well as music... Also,
there is always a way around it- as a result, the
only people it fucks over is those that legitamately bought
a copy.

thats rright. 100%, people who would not have bought it,
still won't. because it will be copied at some point by
someone.

1) download the mp3s
2) burn it onto your own cd-r
3) send a little dinaros to the recored company. maybe a
fiver. i dunno, it's up to you.

I really hope WARP and Rephlex don't adopt this principle.
Though, I don't think we have to worry. They are too smart
to imploy such craptastic ideas.

I don't think so, they seem to be largely free of
fuckwits... they know that the vast majority of people who
are into their stuff are technically savvy enough to acquire
them online and hence put their money into high quality
pressing and nice artwork to entice you to buy them, rather
than idiotic schemes like this. ;)

that's exactly the marketing plan that i think should be
adopted. like shareware. i've been thinking that for
years.

well people in the record industry deserve to get paid for
all there hard work like anyone else so if burning mp3's is
hindering sales and as a result people are loosing jobs as
they are then copright protection is a good and fair idea -
like putting an alarm on yer car- but it is harsh and a
little niaie too.
one thing downloaders don't get is that money lost means
jobs lost so for all the revolutionary rhetoric of the
downloaders - ie the'r right ot free music they forget the
people who work hard and have to pay the rent etc..
I think however some middle way is required cos this is a
bit silly really.
I personally don't download new music cos the artists don't
get paid etc and tiny labels are a labour of love and mostly
run at a loss anyway .
I just download the kinda stuff you can't find on e bay for
less than £100 etc..
two really mental labels strut and nuphonic who rereleased
alot of great older music closed down a couple of months ago
- I wonder how much of this was due to mp3's?
makes you think if you're into thinking about it..
