best thing on the radio right now?

what do you think the best artists/bands or songs are on
the radio right now?

i find it really nice to hear talib kweli's "get by" on
hip-hop stations since it has intelligent lyrics, a positive
message, and intricate, soulful production.. system of a
down songs are good to hear on the radio but i wouldn't buy
an album. audioslave's "like a stone" is a bit middle of the
road but i enjoy it. chris cornell has the definitive voice
of alternative rock. 50 cent's songs are mindless but good.
eh i'll think of more later..

non-biodegradeable crap that pollutes my precious ears and
nearly makes me ill.

yes, QOTSA are great.. i love the rado single "go
with the flow". fun to sing.

i also really like sean paul, all the songs i've heard from
him so far. he has a great voice and it's nice to hear
dancehall catching on.

chevelle have a couple new songs that are pretty good. even
that overplayed evanescence song is technically fantastic as
far as i'm concerned.

the new RHCP single is good, if a bit formulaic.

offline titsworth from Washington, DC (United States) on 2003-06-11 21:27 [#00737213]

i listen mostly to the Univ. of MD station but the range
isn't too far. i put on NPR for classical and talk, but
otherwise i've been switching between hip-hop, classic rock,
and alternative rock stations, as soon as a bad song comes
on. i'll also put on a public jazz station (WPFW) but they
play a lot of crap. same with the oldies station.

college radio is my fav but again the range is only so far.

offline Q4Z2X on 2003-06-11 21:28 [#00737214]

you call that rhcp song formlaic but not the ones by sean

RHCP are better musicians than chevelle and evanescence, who
are relatively new bands, too.

the sean paul songs i've heard haven't been formulaic. it's
a style of music and he has a distinct voice; that's not the
same thing as the songs sounding the same. are you trying to
start shit with me? just answer the question i asked
earlier, drop the pretense like you don't like a single song
played on any radio format.

The Dandy Warhols - We Used to Be Friends

that song is so hypnootic

"a long time ago....we used to be friends...a long time
ago....we used to be friends..."

if you dont know it or havent head it i sujest you do a slsk
or kazaa search now

i haven't heard any new dandy's songs yet.. i saw "godless"
and "get off" on mtv2 before but i never heard any singles
from the last album on the radio actually.

oh yea more good radio stuff: nas! "i can't" is a little
cheesy but the kids need that message and maybe nas will
turn some people onto beethoven.

the clipse rock. "cot damn" indeed.

i answered earlier.
i'm not trying to start anything. i just disagree with you.
in my opinion, i hear a band like evanescence and instantly
think linkin park + female vocals. i find that formulaic. my
friend actually thought that the song was linkin park with a
guest singer after hearing the song dozens of times on the
radio at work, and he wouldn't believe me when i told him it
wasn't.
chevelle isn't bad, but i find their sound and songs very
similar to the other current popular bands. you can look at
a band as being formulaic in the way that all their songs
might sound the same, or the term could be used to describe
their sound when their sound is basically a mixture of a few
bands.
you might consider rhcp or their current single formulaic,
but i happen to think that they have an original sound and
each of their songs are different sounding for the most
part. they may have a certain style and way of writing
songs, but i wouldn't their stuff formulaic.
this is all just my opinion, so just relax, it's okay to
disagree.

you are a complete and utter twit! you don't even know what
you're "disageeing" with. just because i asked the question
doesn't mean i think the radio is awesome. i'm just curious
what people enjoy the most out of what most people are
actually listening to in their cars or wherever. maybe you
haven't read any of my posts before but i'm hardly a
chevelle or evanescence fan, i just think these songs are
pretty damn palatable should they come on the radio. that
evanesence song is interesting cos there haven't been strong
female vocals on a hit alternative rock song in years. i can
hear the linkin park influence in the guy's singing (i too
thought it was related to linkin park), sure, but it's a bit
lazy to call it a linkin park style song and that's all
there is to it. chevelle is pretty formulaic too but again
there is definitely some talent in it even if it's not
adventurously creative. if you know RHCP so well you should
realize they're repeating themselves now, no matter how
great the songs are. i really enjoy them, i just know they
can do better.

now are you going to answer the question for real or just be
a dick about how cool you are for not listening to the
radio?

i said i like radiohead, and they play that on the radio. i
don't really know of too many other bands that i like that
i've heard on the radio.

i don't see why you should try to turn a statement of
opinions into a fucking name calling match.

i'm not going to sink to that level.

i personally like rhcp and don't think they are repeating
themselves. it's my opinion that's all. take it for what
it's worth. i disagreed with you. accept it.

you know tits, you're really good at making enemies..

ok the names are out of line but you've already sunk to a
low level by turning an innocent question into an
opportunity to be holier than thou about your musical
taste... you could've preached in another topic and i'd have
been glad to agree with what you have to say since we
actually feel the same way on radio. but that wasn't what
this topic was for.

enemies schmenemies.. i'm for a bullshit-free society, so i
have to call people out on it.. insert kirkle's retort.

I dunno, whenever I'm forced to listen to the radio (not

artsy fartsy interview shows that have lots of jazzy

people at work always listen to it....and i'm there.
the best things on the radio right now that i dont mind
listening to are:

the new beyonce knowles track. i think its catchy as fuck.
the marylin manson tune is ok.
the white stripes, too.
oh, and radioheads new single.

other than at work, i sometimes like to catch John Peel's

He's been supporting Skam and Warp like it for years.
Hence "Peel Sessions".

i heard the new white stripes song ("7 nation army") and i
absolutely hated it! they seem 95% hype, 4% talent, 1%
creativity to me, but that's just my stinkin' opinion.

i like destiny's child (come on, you can't fuck with their
melodies or harmonies, they're like a blinged out
Jazzyfatnastees) but i haven't heard the new beyonce track
yet. i never heard any kelly rowland solo tracks either,
just that song w/ nelly where she sings some old soft rock
song as the chorus.

haven't heard "there, there" on the radio yet. heard
"mOBSCENE" and thought it was yet another boring manson
track... he's been on a losing streak since 1996! trent
needs to find some pity and produce him again.

The new beyonce track is actualy a version of an old obscure
funk track (cant remember the name)
They have this section on swedish radio called "who was
first?" where they play two versions of a track after
eachother.
Its kinda depressing , 90% of the hits are old shit. I mean
i knew this alredy but it s depressing to get it confirmed

At work i am forced to listen to the radio. All day long
it's shania twain, that godawful "chiwuahua" (sp?) song,
boring eurotechno, "do" with "heaven" etc etc... it's
torture :-p

Today i only heard two nice songs:
daft punk - one more time (always gets me in a good mood)
coldplay - clocks (their best single in a long time).

Universally Speaking is my least favourite song on the By

live 105 in the bay area has actually had a pretty decent
plalist lately. They've really cut back on the rap/rock
crap. It's clear channel so I don't know if this is a nation
wide trend (i was under the impression that all genre clear
channel stations played the same thing) or if they're given
more freedom over what they play. maybe a test market or
something. Before they were bought out though... it really
was something. In 94 and 95 adorable had the most requested
song of the year. You'd played b-sides from brit-pop acts on
a regular basis. Even bands like Pavement were on heavy
rotation, live sets every friday from different bands. Not
bad for a mid to large market rock station. Ahhh how I miss
the pre-clear channel days.
