im gonna have to go with photek too...

but im not a big DnB fan. But i just love his minimalistic
dark dnb

Oh, Photek was my vote too. Nothing to see here.

Photek's stuff pre-Solaris is pretty interesting. I also
like Source Direct's "Exorcise The Demons" LP. Very mean
sounding d&b.

Photek has some good stuff but I heard one album of his and
it sounded really different .. not DnB at all. It sounded
more euro-tech or something although I only listened to it
once or twice.

For a genre with as many sub-genres as DnB has it still
feels largely like a genre in a box, or fresh out of one for
that matter. There are a few innovators but a lot of times
it is the same old same old. However, if there are artists
out there pushing the envelope more I would like to hear
them.

i hope he gets his shit together for his next album. His
d'n'b under the Special Forces alia has been decent, nothing
spectacular though

can't remember which ones because i hardly listen to it
anymore.

Awful indeed. I can't think of any song on there that I like
except for that one really short one towards the end. I
think it's like 30 seconds long?

I have to be the only person on the planet who loves
Solaris. Except the horrid tracks with Robert Owens, I liked
pretty much the whole thing.

Modus Operandi is my favourite of his, though.

i feel affection towards Solaris, too. It's fairly good as
everything Rupert does…yet not perfect as Modus Operandi
I think that Roni Size also deserves attention, i really
like New Forms

Rob Playford has to be one of the most innovative and most
under rated drum and bass producers out there.

I know Spring Heel Jack produced The Burial under the name
Leviticus but as far as I was aware he was a DJ and label
owner not producer.

not really an innovator just a good producer :P

But it wasn't a discussion on the best it was on who is/was
the most innovative.

very clever - when i meant best - i meant better in every
respect than all other names that have gone before in this
particular thread....
usually...thats what BEST means.

you get what i'm on about?

just do your self a favour and check paradox out.

offline ecnadniarb on 2003-06-13 09:14 [#00739307]
Points: 24805 Status: Lurker | Show recordbag

I agree he is better than most of the people who have been
mentioned in this thread. I have a lot of his stuff on
vinyl from back in the day. But innovation and BEST are two
very different things. I still wouldn't class him as an
innovator, just a fucking shit hot producer :P

offline i am dgoHn from outta fucking space (Yemen) on 2003-06-13 09:18 [#00739313]

yeah....(sigh) what ever you think innovative means..blah de
blah (yawn)...

...better in EVERY respect.

whatever. i aint gonna argue with you about this like some
rotton schoolboy who likes to wear skirts.
i've made my point. if you can't understand, it's not my
problem.
deal with it.

It is funny the way that because I have a different opinion
than you that I am wrong...since when did you opinion on
something because the only opinion there is?

I honestly wasn't trying to spark an arguement or anything,
I was just stating my opinion.

How can you class Panacea as an innovator he ripped the No U
Turn sound completely for Lo Profile Darkness, which
although a decent album was cheesy beyond beleif :D

this is what i meant before when i said 'losers'.....not
meaning to cause offense (please nobody take it the wrong
way.... perhaps i use such harsh words as i am in a state of
shock)....
...Andy C is totally....and i mean TOTALLY shit.
he makes crap music for the masses for the sake of a
guaranteed wad of cash.
