My sister is running Windows XP, and out of no where, files
got deleted from her desktop. NO trace. Not in the recycle
bin... just gone.

And folders on her desktop... they remain, but she opens em,
and all the files that where inside are now gone

the applications on the desktop remain though

she ran a virus scan, and it came up with nothing.

should she turn the computor off? or leave it on? can these
files be saved (they are for her resume!)

PLEASE HELP ASAP! as Im on the phone with her now

Thanks

temp. maps of your computer incase stuff like that happens.
i dunno what to do, but you should get this program incase

windows xp has a feature that will let you restore from a
previous state.

look for it under the system tools menu (or something like
that)

you will be able to set a date and time to restore your
system to. just pick a time when everything was working
normally..

it sounds like what neoexmist is talking about but this is
something that is bundled with xp.

...should do the trick

Did she log in with a different username and password? That
would give her a different desktop.

no... no different name...

she did a restore for this morning... but not all the files
are back... so she is trying an earlier date... perhaps they
have slowly been disappearing? (she has been out of town for
a few days)

thanks for the help guys. Hopefully it will work out, but
now I am off to bed...

thanks again!
