I don't like BOC

offline bjg from Adelaide (Australia) on 2003-05-27 20:29 [#00717334]
Points: 203 Status: Regular

Is it just me? I like RDJ and ae etc etc.. But i just can't
get into BOC. It just seems to be missing something. Every
song just doesn't sound like it's finished or something.
Maybe it's just me..

windowlicker is shite (except for my mates, bless em) :)

Oh i reckon. There's worse songs though, like that fucking
ketchup song. I'm just talking strictly electronic here
though.

most people here are keen on BOC, and I'm one of them.

what does it seem to be missing to you? I think it feels
very complete and full.

i agree
part of what i love of BOC's works are the rich, full
synths.
their sound is deffinately minimal, but i wouldn't say it is
missing anything. they don't use a lot of sequencer
trickery and tedious programming if thats what you mean but
that ain't their bag.

offline BlatantEcho from All over (United States) on 2003-05-27 21:24 [#00717378]
Points: 7210 Status: Lurker

yeah, you wanna hear music that sounds imcomplete?

listen to the tracks I make......

offline bjg from Adelaide (Australia) on 2003-05-27 21:26 [#00717382]
Points: 203 Status: Regular

That might be what it is evolume. Hard to describe why i
just don't like it - i don't know all the musical terms etc.
Like it's not bad compared to a lot of music today, but i'm
surprised it's as popular as like RDJ, ae, []pusher, etc..
Maybe i should try listening a bit more and see if it grows
on me. But i have listened to BOC alot and it hasn't been
instant like the other artists i mentioned.

boc is soooo different to ae of aphex, it kinda doesnt even
seem to be in the same genre to me, i dunno y it shoudl be
so suprising that u dont like boc even tho u like ae n
aphex, its totally different. personally i think BoC are
fekkin fab if im in a boc kinda mood

Chinook sounds a bit Autecherish. Alot of their music to me
sounds a bit like ae.. But i dunno i love ae and not BOC.

i'm strongly against trying to get into music, you really
shouldn't have to try, you know? it should just grab you

I need my BoC ;___;

Well...BoC appeal is strictly from an emotional point of
view...contrary of autechre they are not trying to be some
kind of virtuoso or anything and see how far they can push
their machines...

And besides that part of th BoC appeal is that childish like
feeling that it has...

offline roygbivcore from Joyrex.com, of course! on 2003-05-27 21:41 [#00717403]

but shit, i'm a hypocrite. i had to try hard to get into

atleast they are big enough that it isn't out of print or
something equally inconvenient!

i used to feel this way about autechre, but i guess one day
it hit me and i started to really get into some of their
tracks. it just depends on your mood/attitudes maybe

i guess its appeal, maybe their (boc) sound doesnt appeal to
you..

give them a try though they kick ass!

offline bjg from Adelaide (Australia) on 2003-05-27 22:55 [#00717467]

Thanks b0nk. Good reply. I will keep listening to them. Like
right now i've nearly downloaded and listened to Geogaddi
and i'm really liking this album actually. It must have just
been other stuff of theirs not appealing to me.

I wanna hear a boc remix of windowlicker.

Boards of Canada are amazing, you will probably get into
them at some point...I mean I've never heard of anyone
having bad taste forever :)

and windowlicker is jeanyus

the ending of windowlicker is insane!

offline roygbivcore from Joyrex.com, of course! on 2003-05-27 23:35 [#00717478]

i was thinking about covering windowlicker on my fourtrack
and then glitching it out and shit on the computer after
making a solid rock track

offline artemis from Ghent (Belgium) on 2003-05-28 02:58 [#00717589]

It's just taste. I feel the same for autechre: definately i
don't like ae. It is difficult to understand that there are
people who don't like BOC. I agree: Geogaddi was a misser

offline Morton from out (Netherlands, The) on 2003-05-28 03:04 [#00717596]

i don't really like'em that much either
the melodies are nice but bore me quite quickly
the beats could be more varied imo, most of the time it's
4/4 boom-tick-boom-tick
Maybe it's just me..

i love boc, to me they are Real chillout, not the crap you
get on chart chillout albums.....i cant see any similarity
to ae in any boc tracks though....

Amen! Which is why Draft 7.30 is nowhere near as good as
other Ae albums...! Anyway, back to the
thread...Windowlicker's great, and so are BoC...I think
that's cleared that up...

Music Is Math..good test track IMO

Geogaddi is the only release I sometimes decide I don't want
to listen to. MHTRTC I could listen to all day every day.
:P

i love boc, i cant understand how anyone can think that it
doesnt sound finished...its just got a nice chilled out
smooth sound...yeah its not complicated and hasnt got insane
beats like afx or ae but meh!! its different!

I'm wondering who listen again to Geogaddi, soooo boring. A
year ago it was just a hype.

no "music has the right to children" is their best
release...then "In A Beautiful Place Out In The
Country"...and then "Hi Scores"...then "Geogaddi" and then
"Twoism". ...In that order!

I can't see how you people can see that :P

[]pusher
