Ugh\ ([oo^]), interj. An exclamation expressive of
disgust, horror, or recoil. Its utterance is usually
accompanied by a shudder.

i've never listened to a deftones song. i always pictured
them to be a rip off of tool. i like tool.

offline Q4Z2X on 2003-05-20 17:36 [#00707238]

yeah i like their earlier stuff a lot, but liked each album
less as they were released, might go pick up the new one
tonight and give it a chance though.

it's very different than tool
they have their own style, love it, or hate it..

The deftones haven't really broken any new musical ground
with their new stuff.
It's sounds exactly the same as the last one if you ask me>

TOOL doesn't think so........maynard sang with deftones in
vancouver a couple years ago at a festival show.....so ummm
yea you should rethink that description.

deftones are decent IMO!

not necessarily...but it does get a bit old.

and that particular sound is a bit played out by a number of
different bands these days.

Well yes and no depending on you're view point, personally I
didn't like white pony that much.

So in my view yes it is.

the white pony is highly underrated, some great
"experimentalism" on that album for you schmucks who are
hung up on experimentation

i just bought the new album and have listened to it a few
times.. i'd say their music has continued to progress like
did with white pony, some songs are lighter, and some songs
are heavier than any of their stuff, but still kind of
keeping the feel of the whole album. i haven't listened to
it enough to completely decide, but i'm guessing that this
album will be my least favorite of them all, even though one
of the songs is mostly electronic, with some vocals, but i
didn't like it at really.. maybe my opinion will change
though, as i listen to it more and give it more of a
chance..
i'd say the music on this album has more of a generally
positive, yet sometimes almost creepy feeling to it compared
to the other albums.

Sure there's a lot of bands in that genre of music but
Deftons definatly have their originality which no other
bands, i've heard, sound like them.

white pony was the only deftones album i liked... so i was
really looking forward to this one... im 3 songs in and i
dunno... the beginning part of hexagram was really good, but
then it got all silly/heavy... which is not my bag... its
ok... but 3 songs in and im not impressed

i really think the deftones peaked with the white pony and
this new album is really one of the worst follow-ups i have
ever heard. i think they ran out of ideas and i am severely
disappointed.

sadly i'm gonna have to agree... white pony was amazing...
this is just a really boring followup with no standout
songs. digital bath and knife prty kill anything on this
album. damn. i really hope it can grow on me, but it's not
looking good. it's also worse than around the fur. i've not
fully heard adrenaline yet, so i can't say about that

I haven't heard it yet. Unfortunately if it's nothing like
White Pony i'm prob not gonna like it. There was a lot of
controversy surrounding this album though, and i think they
may have rushed it even. It apparently was supposed to come
out like last year or early this year, then they postphoned
it, then they postphoned it again, and in the end it wasn't
going to come out til next year, but here it is.

But i reckon it's on the net already, especially if it's
been released in stores. Look on #altrock or #mroxdcc on
Efnet.

I saw Deftones live in January and they were pretty good.

65mb.

Around the Fur was rockhard
White Pony was rock

new deftones...
I heard "minerva" and thoght it was really good. but the
rest just sounds old.
But one good thing with bands that keep doing the same thang
over and over again is that you know what youre gonna get
when you buy an album.

It's not too bad, but it is very samey. I can't stand
Minvera, it repulses me.

The second track has a great sound to it, shame it doesn't
really develop.

*movie preview voice*

rolling stone said "the ambient doomscape "Lucky You," which
might be worth an approving smirk from the Aphex Twin"

I listened to it this arvo. It sounds very Adrenalinish.
It's like a bit of a mix of their old Adrenaline tracks and
White Pony. Lucky You is pretty White Ponyish. Not very
original compared to their old stuff. I don't mind this
sound though.

I don't think it's THAT bad. I actually think it's ok.

I bought Minus' new album the same day I downloaded this,
and suffice to say I'm glad I spent the money that way cause
it blows 'Deftones' out of the fucking water.

aphex twin is still a good buzz name, coolness!

so is "lucky you" on the album as well as the soundtrack? i
enjoyed that song, i downloaded it.

dunno, but i downloaded the album well over a week ago on
slsk, so dunno what u on about how it wasn't on the net til
it came out.
That said, I have to agree with most opinions here, I'm very
disappointed by this new album, I was kinda hoping for a
continuation of the brilliant white pony album but alas....

Bought it yesterday, and i think it's pretty good. I do
think that White Pony is still a better album, but i
definitely prefer this one over Around the Fur. I absolutely
loved Minerva... still think it's one of the
highlights on the album. Chino seems to be becoming a better
singer with each album... his vocals on this one are so
emotional. When i listened to this album for the first time,
and he starts with his "paint the streets white..."... i
fell in love with his voice all over again. He's probably my
favourite singer at this moment next to Thom Yorke (and
maybe Michael Stipe).
(didn't like the Worship and play-chorus when i heard it
yesterday, but it's starting to grow on me).

Musically it's more of the same if you ask me. Not
really a bad thing, since their music is highly
original and so beautiful, but it would be nice if they
explored new musical ground a little more for their 5th
album. (Lucky You is a nice start :-) A very interesting
song).

Yeah Lucky You is on the album aswell.

I agree with you surrounded. It's not bad i don't think,
it's just not different to their old stuff. Which i don't
think is a bad thing.

i don't think that "lucky you" really fits with the overall
feel of the album
it should have been a team sleep song..
