Please listen to my first attempt at "proper" singing! :)

I know that the recording of the vocals is not brilliant,
but hey I'm using a PC Headset!

My version of True Faith (with added vocals)

it's nearly two minutes long so far....please gimme your
opinions!

haha this kicked in fuckin' loud, the volume of my computer
was way too high, it was all silent and then those bass
attack kicked in :) good start though

and 'bout the track: i love this! seriously! i reminded me
of Erlend Øye's 'Unrest' cd, nice electro and you have a
good voice imo (could be a bit more smooth maybe, but good
enough), i like the melody and chords too, well constructed

you should definately finish this, and tell me when you did
so. this stuff is perfect to play in the car during
summertime :)

the beats make it very powerfull but the track is nice and
relaxing at the same time, i don't know how to explain
really, anyways i really do like this,
good work! and again, tell me when it's finished

heheh, i put it through t-racks

heheh :)

i'm gonna make a shit load of changes probably.....before
it's finished that is, and hopefully i'll get it done by the
end of monday.

i'll be sure to let you know when it's done

thank you so much for all your positive feedback, it kinda
makes my art even more worthwhile :)

Lolf, I would be too embarassed to do this. You sound almost
like a normal singer, only maybe you take in too deep of
breaths when you pause heh heh. You know how you can control
your mouth/vocal cords/tongue etc to do ANYTHING your brain
thinks of INSTANTLY? That would be cool if you could control
a computer like that instead.

yeah i know about the breaths, but unless i can get access
to some decent compresion/mics, it's gonna have to stay :(

i'm not embarressed by this stuff anymore...i used to be
though...until i performed Prodigy's Firestarter in the
school talent show

industrial/electronica genre

umm, this is pretty bad imo... i don't know if everyone that
this a cover, does everyone know????
i don't know, anyways i guess its good for a laugh, no harm
ok, but honesty counts... this reminds me of when my brother

well, thanks for your honesty :)

and yes, i think everyone knows its a cover, when my first
post said that it's a version of True Faith

if it was original work, it wouldn't be a version would it?

:)

i'm glad that i could remind you of something, or at least
make you laugh :)

i'm sorry if i was a bit rude there, but i mean you don't
say why it's bad, you only consider it bad 'cause "it's a
cover"? i don't see the logic in that, there are too many
great covers, so what if it's not brand new, as long as it
sounds good it's ok imo
saying 'it's good for a laugh' to someone who's seriously
working on a particular track isn't very polite either imo
you can give negative feedback and still show respect/stay
correct, it's not at all hard

agreed. i feel a little bad about being so blunt about it
and I certantly did not make a valid arguement for my remark
in my post. my apologies...i don't however consider it bad
because its a cover, nor did i imply it, i consider it bad
because of the toneless vox (even considering the gear
used). i do however consider it good in that it brought back
certain memories from a beautiful childhood.

much luck and thanks to oscillik!!!

I didn't like it. The background music was crap and the
singing was average. You're not a bad singer but you don't
have a voice that grabs you by the lugs and says "you must
listen". Just my opinion though...and I don't like any
music any more and I have a particular hatred of the
eighties so my opinion counts for very little in this case
:D

How come you chose True Faith? I think you need to find your
own voice and not be thinking too much about the genre
itself, because I feel your voice is a bit restrained. I
think you can do better if you just sing with your natural
voice, not mimicing a genre.

I chose True Faith because I love that song, and I always
have done. :)

About my singing, I'm not conciously trying to mimic
anything or anyone, I'm just trying to sing.

I guess maybe it's just the simple fact that I am not a good
singer.

I just wish I was....if only for this song anyways

offline zyx from Beijing (China) on 2003-05-18 02:10 [#00703524]

Im sure that the headset as well gives you some limitations
to what you can do. I am a terrible singer, but I still
bought a good mic, and in a relaxed situation when I just
let go and dont try to restrain myself it sound much much
better. And then theres the computer to help you. The first
rules of pop music these days must be that a bad singer is
not going to stop your project in any way, as long as you
have the right software to fix it. And for electronic music,
I actually find it being a part to the aesthetics to treat
the vocals digitally. But then again, why do you think that
so many of the computer music guys does non-vocal music, or
find themselves pretty girls to do the singing for
them?.....................

hmmm,

not bad....

Your pitch did kind of meander away from the key a good
bit... but it wasnt horrenduos.

As far as your voice itself... I think you could just loosen
up a bit... I could hear in your voice heasitation...

but all and all, good effort... just keep practicing
singing... thats the only way to get better!

Well, I wouldn't stoop to the levels of commercialisation by
using either

1) Voice Modelling software to tweak my voice (the only time
I'd put effects on my voice is if it were a BitCrusher or
Chopper, or Distortion....I wouldn't ever modify the pitches
so that they sounded "nicer")

2) By using some silly 20 year old airhead who has no idea
or conception of the fact that music is an artform, and not
a way to get rich quick.

As I've said in one of my previous posts, I mainly do
instrumental stuff anyways...I've done one other track with
my vocals in, and that was an attempt at Digital Hardcore
style stuff (if you've ever heard Atari Teenage Riot you'd
know what I mean)

But you are right about the relaxed bit....I'm never really
relaxed when I'm trying to sing, so I guess I just need lots
of practice

instruments etc
