i watched this fantastic movie this weekend!
WOW.......spectacular scenery, fascinating story, and
supreme moosiq by philip glass!

anyone else seen this movie? i enjoy learning about the
different religions out there, especially something so
foreign (at least to me) like buddhism.

i read the last book by the dalia lama, such a wise man, and
i was lucky enough to see him speak in my fair town a few
years ago. such wisdom!

before......it's some of the most beautiful clothing of any
country IMO!

tibet is certainly an interesting naation. i didn't know
kundun has glasses music, i think the dvd is in our library
and i will go pick it up today.

i made a long essay/study on tibet just a while ago.. the
dalai lama truly is a wise and great man.. everyone not
knowing anything about tibet should search for his
'introduction to tibet', beautiful.

dalai lama is definitely a very nice and wise person...i
read his book 2 times - its very simple but to the point...

also i have kundun on divx...havent been bothered to watch
it yet...i'll definitely watch it some time soon tho...i saw
7 years in tibet not so long ago - this one's probably much
different but i found it very pleasent

i have a book by the dali lama, and numerous other books on
buddhism from sooo long ago.

i really wish i kept learning about it and reading.
i used to be into it so much. i wanted to learn all i could
about tibet and buddhism.

but i lost interest, and now i have no time to read thoes
books that often anymore :(

music.....scorsese said he could not imagine the film
without glass' music......it's POWERFUL!

d00d it's absolutely NUTTIN' like 7 years in tibet
(hollywood brad pitt crap) and i like brad pitt.

this is about the Dalai Lama, it's his life story
basically.....and that dude from 7 yrs in Tibet doesn't
figure into this film at all.

WATCH it soon, you'll it's really good! =0)

Yes yes. Beautiful movie, beautiful music.

I love the kinds of movies that can teach something about
other cultures, and do it well.

Apparently there was some difficulty surrounding the making
of the film. Disney financed it but were worried about the
all-important market in China. They were worried they'd be
shooting themselves in the foot.

I support the Tibetans right to self-determination. But I've
never understood what is so great about the Dalai Lama. He's
feted by Hollywood and LA-types but none of them would get
their hands dirty and speaking out openly about China.

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2003-05-13 02:09 [#00696210]
Points: 50073 Status: Moderator

hehe, if that about the chinese market is true...how
truthful is it then!?

about the hollywood-i dont think dalai lama is overly
concerned with it...its just easier to be noticed and to
inform what's been going on in tibet that way

i DO not like the hollywood connection AT ALL......i mean
richard gere having access to such an important figurehead,
not just in Tibet, but to buddhists everywhere.....not to
mention a kind and WISE man. it makes me kinda sick.....

and i really believe that people don't know very much about
CHINA as a whole, so they don't get involved. i mean the
human rights that get stomped on over there is
appalling......and as evidenced by the whole SARS
thing.....their own government LIES to them! =/

- i didnt get much of an answer...im not sure but i think
tibet is a forbidden topic in china

i just watched kundun...its not a film to my likings
really...too many stereotypes, which i really hate to see
(same thing i hated "pianist" for), and this story was
repeated in a whole bunch of movies...spectacular scenery is
the best thing about the movie for me...
i liked 7 years in tibet more - mostly because dalai lama is
presented in a much better way...
i would prefer if kundun would be a movie that would present
us a certain period out of dalai lamas life and show him as
a person instead of trying to give us an idea of what's been
happening in tibet (which is shown like some kind of
fairy-tale in this movie)...
hehe, im hard to satisfy...

was my first date. seventh grade.

you prefer hollywood ROT to scorsese??

aiaiiaiaiaii......i know movie viewing is HIGHLY
subjective......so i'll let you slide.
=0)

but this movie.....IMO leaves 7 years in tibet....wandering
lost in the himalayan mountians......hehehehehhe

Haven't watched 7 Years yet, though I have it. And your post
probably just delayed its viewing at least another few
months :D

Speaking of Scorsese, I still haven't seen The Last
Temptation of Christ
either. I heard it wasn't that
great, but I have a feeling I'd like it.

*can't wait for The Passion*

last temptation is dope! but it's hit or miss with people.
(woah did your avatar blink?! cool!)

i really enjoyed 7 years in tibet when i saw it actually,
but i must agree, it has nothing on kundun (leave you
bitches undone)

I'll have to bump Last Temptation up to the top of my list
of movies to see. Along with 1984...another one I must see
soon!

w00t! Last Temptation of Christ... still haven't seen this,
even though the soundtrack is my fav album! I've looked for
it here, but I guess seeing as it's been banned from
blockbuster I don't expect to find it in any video store...

and from what I've HEARD about the movie, it doesn't seem
that offensive... all you have to do is use your head and
think a bit about it... but I guess that's too much to ask
from most people...

banned from blockbuster? that's outrageous. are you sure
it's not a case of just your local blockbuster not having
it?

you may want to order the dvd, it has extensive footage of
peter gabriel (interview and in the studio) and it really is
a great movie

willem's preformance was perfection. it was interesting
seeing all those OTHER's in it as well. some worked better
than others i felt.

anyway it was an interesting premise, and as a christian i
didn't feel like it was this huge sacrilegious thing... but
i don't take movies as seriously as some folk.
