as far as the rumors go, there was a 4 track promo of this
vinyl given to someone who worked in warp, but it was never
realeased, (ALA mfm/AB5) only one of the tracks was released
on a compilation cd, and that is the track that is floating
around

sorry, it was 'Rephlex', not 'Warp'

When was it released then?

Q-Chastic (CAT002) was a test pressing 2x12" vinyls cut as
10" in 1992. Only a few people outside the Rephlex camp got
one, and Richard nor Grant own originals anymore - Richard
does have the DAT though.

It is a 4-track EP, and the song CAT002 is different than
the one that appears on the POSAM compilation. All four
tracks are untitled. The only reason the track was entitled
'CAT002' on the POSAM comp was because it was a dirivitive
track from CAT002 (the EP).

The proper name for the EP is Q-Chastic and the artist who
did it is called Q-Chastic.

This is possible the hottesdt item of the messageboard. We
have heard so much about the record but nobody have seen it.
There are so many fables about this record: hoax, fake
MP3's, different descriptions...

That's because it doesn't exist, joy...

jand, i keep telling him that... let him live in his fantasy
man he obviously enjoys it..

Ahh, I see - because Tits and Jand say it's so, it must be
the truth... silly me.

Sorry guys, but I trust Grant/Richard's word over yours (and
Mike P's) on this one. Alan Parry had one, and I've spoken
to friends of his who confirmed this.

What do I care anyway if it exists or not? If Richard
doesn't decide to release it, who cares what the tracks
sounded like, or if they were any good?

All I am doing is emparting the info that was passed along
to me to others who ask.

we talked about this just a week ago.. there's no evidence
to suggest the tracks have ever left the DAT.. how do you
know alan parry had one?

but you're right it's a sad discussion considering these
will probably never be released anyway...

offline Joyrex from watmm.com (United States) on 2003-04-18 23:45 [#00657936]

I've never talked to Alan personally about it, but several
reputable people have confirmed he had one (the only weird
part of the story is he said it was 'stolen', which I find
hard to buy).

Why is it so improbable that a test pressing exists? You all
would have never known about CAT023 had it not been for Mike
P and my interview with him on it... not everything that's
out there is on the net you know :)

ok... and a reputable person, namely mike p., has said he's
never seen it ANYWHERE and he should know. so we can chalk
this up to no proof to validate either claim, as it's kind
of a pointless and nerdy thing to discuss anyway.

it's improbable a test pressing of the # of copies you and
phobia have assigned to it (as well as other afx sites now
faded away) exists cos we'd have mp3zzzz and ebay sales by
now. there's none for CW: Da Album! cos it was such a small
press. 200 or whatever it was, you'd have heard it by now.

CAT023 was limited to FOUR (4) copies.

2nd: I'm sure the CAT002 test press was very limited,
probably a few, less than a dozen - test pressings are just
used to gauge audio quality and to make sure the masters
don't have any flaws. Most test pressings are junked after
verification as to avoid them getting mixed up with the
production copies.

AND, just because Mike P didn't see it, doesn't mean it does
not exist - I'm sure he wasn't privvy to a lot of early
Rephlex stuff since he came in on the picture after Rephlex
was started, and CAT002 was one of the first planned
releases.

rephlex are great aren't they? they live off myths of
strange deleted or non-existant records. you've got to give
it to them, its great p.r. for them :)

yes i know CW was very limited, i just said that... 200 (or
100, whatever you and the other web sites said in the past)
was what i said for q-chastic ep, which as michael moore
would put it, is purely "ficticious"... don't take it so
personally, it just seems unlikely and remains unproven that
this exists.

God's existance hasn't been proven, but it doesn't hinder
billions of people all over the world to believe in him.
(silly example, I know).

As for what was said/printed in the past, that was back when
all we had to go on was regurgitated information, before any
of us actually started talking to people who were around in
those days. I assure you my new Aphex discog will strive to
be as accurate as possible.
