anyone listen to much of his stuff?
I bought Sextant recently and it blew my mind...everyone goes on about his 80's stuff but this IMO is just as good

"i'll be like herbie, and hand you a cock!" -akinyele
little known fact: i attended the herbie handcock & the headhunters reunion concert at the 1998 tibetan freedom concert. great show but i'm not a big fan. i admire him for what he's done for music (esp. getting hip-hop into the mainstream) and i nearly met him at an in-store signing but was too pussy to approach him as he began to leave the building.

I wouldn't really like to compare them
comparing amazing artists seems a bit pointless, enjoy them as individual artists!

exactly!! i hate when people talk about an artist by saying (s)he's not as good as another. there's so much music out there, don't limit yourself!

you guys are not going to believe this shit!!!!! i sat next to him on a train to berkeley about to weeks ago, no fucking shit really... i didn't like fucking bother him with questions as he appeared to be relaxing with his wife and such, but i did acknowledge him and he too, so i gave him a polite 'thank you for what he has done for music' he smiled, and said "music" in a way as though he thought of paticular note or song which made him smile...
i'm not fucking around people, really... he was doing a few shows in the n. california area at the time, davis, berkeley san fran and the likes...

Herbie Hancock, is the business. Headhunters and Thrust absolutely mind blowing. He does what he does very well. I think most agree his seventies stuff was his peak. The eighties was ok but no one can touch him from the seventies. Herbie is definitely the king of fusion.
