26 Mixes For Cash pisses me off.

After all the hype, I was expecting something good. But no.
It's very dissapointing. And not in a, "god, this is weird,
I might have to decipher/get used to it" kinda way, more
like, "this is plain boring."

Apart from, maybe three remixes, it's just plain boring for
me.

Sorry, that was awfully written-I apologize. I guess it was
because I had just finished the first CD and was very
furious. :D

But seriously-It's not like my initial reaction to Confield
(I KNEW I'd come round to that eventually, only at first it
scared me)...it's just too repeptitive on many occasions, or
doesn't devlope, or has lame production....Aphex is loosing
it, imho.

Agreed

That is two releases I have felt are under par where as
autechre keep on getting better.

The second CD is better than the first though.

yes, 2nd CD contains much ass kicking...

Hmm, I'm listening to it now. Yes, it is better, but
still-not fabulous or haunting or anything, just fairly
exciting. The first is most disspointing though...I don't
mind ambient, but I can't explain why it doesn't do it for
me anyway (Sakura et al I find beautiful for example, or his
own Ambient Works)...I even prefer Druqks, flawed as it is,
to this uninspired stuff. At least Druqks had moments of
mental brilliance.

Well I don't think you can consider this evidence of his
"losing it" when the tracks are culled from the last 13
years

ok, whatever-it's a dissapointing CD then.

please tell me you're joking? i love 26mixes, CD1 is my
favourite. I guess you're more into his newer drill&bass
stuff. tell me, how do you like his older work (saw1,caustic
window/polygon window/afx etc...?) the tracks from that
period are up to the same standards as alot of the tracks
from 26mixes

hhmm, interesting. If it's not that aweful drill&bass stuff
I might like it

i'm not big on actually looking at the names of songs
i mianly got the CD for "at the heart of it all"...my only
disappointment was that track, why isn't it the 7 minute
version?

Yeah, sorry mate.. I think this album was meant for fans of
Aphex Twins music.

I like Come To Daddy (ep) and Druqks alot, and some of I
Care Because You Do.

I love Autechre.

This doesn't do it for me, though. Too repetitive, with too
little developement.

I mean, listen to it for god's sake, without some
rose-tinted glasses! Look at track 4, CD2-it's fucking
clanging in simle, boring, rythms for over 4 minutes! Or the
next track, or the next-all boring and repetetive.

Listen to it! So you're telling me track 4 on CD2 ISN'T
annoying repetitive!? It goes ON and ON, the same, and ends
just as it begun. Same with many tracks.

i think you should stick with autechre. aphex is not for
you, atleast his techno/ambient stuff. you got to relax,
feel the music and stop being so impatient. songs don't have
to be complex to be good

Ok, maybe you're right.

BUT he is proclamined as "Mozart of Techno"

I have been into Aphex since On was released. I just think
it was a bit of a retro step because the tracks do sound
very very dated for the most part and if it was the first
Aphex album I ever bought I would be very very disappointed.
That is just the way i look at it.

It's OK, but there's really only a couple of tracks that are
first rate, the rest of pretty tepid. The Windowlicker
Remix- I expected something more, but it's just a cute
little diversion using the samples rather than some really
interesting reworking of it. Lame.

I think it sounds dated because some of those tracks are 13
years old.

they needed to include the full 7 minutes of "At the heart
of it All." To good not to all there. And why would
someone say some of the music sounds "dated?" It's music.
One could say SAW1 or Incunabula sound dated, but I still
love both those records....

i liked the phillip glass/david bowie
there's just somethin about the predictability and
minimalism of phillip glass that catches me

you probably dont like any of his pre-rdj album releases
then huh?
its understandable.. its seems a lot of people have musical
ADD from listening to more complex non-repetative stuff from
after the mid 90's..

its kinda unfortunate that so many people are unable to
appreciate music that doesnt change every two seconds

having said that... yeah, a lot of the tracks are kinda
boring.. you have to remember that they're remixes..a lot of
which for artists richard doesnt give two shits about.. the
title even says they were done for money.. this is like his
job, he's not going to put his all into every remix... he's
usually just doing them to pay the bills

I thinks it's great stuff, esp. the Gavin Bryars, Baby Ford,
and Phillip Boa remixs... the only TRULEY AWFUL song is the
DMX krew remix... what a peice of shit that is... Overall
score for 26 mixes: 8.5 which is good for any remix CD imo

i think the baby ford remix is absolutely amazing, one of
the best afx songs i've heard. Wouldn't sound misplaced on
druqks. On the whole i think that both CDs are pretty
badass. Yes, some of its dated, but what i didnt like most
was that the production was a bit shitty on quite a few of
the tracks, crackles at high volumes and shit like that. My
fav tracks are:

Remix - AFX [had it b4 though]
Normal (AFX Helston flora remix) - Baby Ford
Krieger (Aphex Twin Baldhu mix) - Die Fantastischen Vier
Time to find me (AFX fast mix) - Seefeel
Journey (Aphex Twin care mix) - Gentle People

yeah it had a few good tracks, Normal, the first NIN one,
heroes....but thers a lot of repetitive early sounding stuff
on there.....i cant see how anyone can like Every track, or
how anyone can hate Every track, its so varied.....its good
value for money anyway, 26 tracks that would have cost a
forsure to find seperatelly

hehe as stated above by someone it's ridiculous to say it
sounds dated, cause it's just that: old tracks.

anywhom, why the hell was the nin remix on disc 2 so
mindlessly cut in half?? a damn shame, it's one of my
favourite aphex tracks.

offline ecnadniarb on 2003-04-05 14:14 [#00633971]
Points: 24805 Status: Lurker | Show recordbag

My only arguement about with it sounding dated is for people
who pick up the album as their first Aphex release (which
would be pretty stupid). Also I think that the really stand
out tracks are ones that I already had like the remix from 2
remixes and the Baby Ford remix which was on the braindance
coincidence.

Its not a bad album, just average in my worthless opinion.

Netlon: Technically it wasn't cut in half. On Further Down
The Spiral that tracks first half is pure NIN and Aphex is
only credited for 'part B'... its like 2 tracs and one fades
into another...

braindance: on the contrary, I think it would be a perfect
first aphex album for someone to pick up as it covers pretty
much all of his styles.. you could find the thing you like
and expound upon that..

no no i mean the track on the second disc. it's called at
the heart of it all and on the further down the spiral nin
remixes cd it's about 7 minutes.
