gah, it's horrible how some people think of techno when they
hear the word 'dub', and apparently 'ragga' has the same
effect!

From Allmusic.com:

Ragga refers to reggae in which the backing instrumentation
(or the vast majority of it) is digital. The style is most
commonly associated with dancehall, and while not all
dancehall reggae is electronic (and therefore not ragga),
there is a great deal of overlap between the two. "Ragga" is
short for "raggamuffin," originally a term for a Kingston
ghetto youth; the music took on that name as it became the
younger generation's style of choice in the mid- to late
'80s.

ragga has a lot more bass, n less melody than reggae, n
gruffer more 'rapped' vocals.

your thinking of raga which are traditional indian songs.

ragga is jamacian dancehall music - shabba ranks and buju
banton - elephant man and sean paul - it's kind of a bit
like rap but jamacain more fierce and more
electronic/rhythmic .
built for mashing up systems ..

a very interesting and much maligned form of music i think
