yeah it has LOTS of interesting information for sure, but
the design of the site makes me not want to go there very
often :-)

But you've got to be impressed with all the stuff he seems
to know that no-one else already knows :-p

hey the reason he mentions it is cos so many people mention
things DAYS, WEEKS, MONTHS after he's had it on his site. so
he's like IF you bother to check here, you'll find out some
good info. =b

and just when you thought EVERYONE knew what was

maybe i should change the red design.. it looks good but i
guess in the long run it's a bit of a pain. maybe i'll make
it blue. check out the banners at the bottom of the page,
for all of you with webpages of your own...

anyway, i stopped "pushing" my page on this board cos few
people cared. if you guys wanna wait a few days or MONTHS
for joyrex or phobia to post the same info, be my guest. i'm
not going to stop updating it cos at least i find it useful
for keeping track of music i plan to buy or at least
download (and maybe buy). and come to think of it, enough
people email or IM me to say they enjoy it, so if xltronic
doesn't care it's not like i don't already have people who
find the site useful.

"maybe i'll make it blue."

lol... yeah that'll help ;-)

When i was talking about the design, i meant the fact that
you have to read everything in order to find what
you're looking for. Say i wanted to know something about the
new mogwai-album, then i also have to read about plaid, air,
gescom, methodman... etc. etc. etc.

Having just a list of all the artists featured on the site,
and then linking those to the actual information would be a
huge improvement imho.

But hey, it is your site ofcourse :-) If you're happy
with it, don't change it. And if you don't care about the
lack of response from this site -and i wouldn't-, then by
all means keep it the way it is.

if you dingbats aren't smart enough to use ctrl+f to find
what you're looking for then you don't deserve to know.
honestly, some fucking people.

the organization for when the cd's are coming out:

SET RELEASE DATES

GENERAL - SEASONS

VAGUE - YEAR

what do you want me to do, make it alphabetical? please.
makes no fuckin' sense. do you realize how many artists i
cover on this page? the list would be enormous and quite
useless. all you have to do is scroll down, the artist names
are on the fucking left. and as for mixing release dates
with unknown release dates, that's ludicrous because spring
releases are always changing to summer, etc.

what it comes down to is this page has always been primarily
for myself. i cover who i want to cover and organize it in a
logical way that i find most appealing. there are other
sensible ways to organize this page, but a list of artists i
cover isn't one of them. use ctrl fucking F to search for a
band name. it's NOT that difficult.

"aren't smart enough to use ctrl+f"

...or maybe don't care enough.

"then you don't deserve to know. honestly, some fucking
people.
"

Ha! I must say, i'm mainly going by what LeCoeur said on
this subject. I haven't really ever seen you complain that
not enough people care about your site, but from LeCoeur's
post it seemed that you are frustrated about it.

But honestly... what do you expect with such an attitude? It
sounds like we should feel honoured that the great titsworth
is spending some of his valueable time to make that page for
us.

And ctrl+F isn't such an ideal system at all actually. It
seems to me that the point of your site is to inform people
about things they didn't know yet. The main attraction is
that you always seem to know things ahead of other people.

To stick to the mogwai-example: say i come to your site and
i don't know yet mogwai is working on a new album. How am i
supposed to know what to search for with the ctrl+f? I don't
even know that there is any mogwai-news! So if i
really want to use your site to full effect, i would need to
make a list of every artist i'm interested in, and use
ctrl+f for every single one of them! In the end it's easier
to just scroll down and read everything --> but that is just
too slow and frustrating and i can't be bothered to do that
every week. Your site is just not user-friendly at all, and
you might want to consider that the problem lies within your
site, and is not a problem of everyone who visits it.

"what it comes down to is this page has always been
primarily for myself.
"

Well if that is true, just keep it like it is. But don't act
surprised if nobody comes to visit, and get upset when you
don't get enough response when you're promoting your site
here. And don't call people who don't like the layout of
your site a dingbat! :-p

if you don't care enough why look at all? or post about it
for that matter.

ctrl+F is a perfect system for not only that page but the
web in general, not to mention your internal hard drive
contents.

as for scanning for a certain band, it's really not that
hard. if you don't see it with a definite release date on
top, then scroll down. it's alphabetical, just
compartmentalized.

as far as a list of what's updated, it's at the very top.
there's no reason to re-read the same thing every week
unless you're retarded or blind. the only time i'd expect
someone to take it in all at once is maybe if it's their
first time loading the page.

i don't bring it up here that i'm peeved people ignore my
site, wait weeks or months for the same info to come out
elsewhere, then get all excited about it. i've mentioned my
frustration a couple times before but generally i'm not the
sulking type. i look at it as your (not you specifically)
loss, not my own. it's because i like almost everyone here
that it bothers me how people could stay informed on this
sort of thing if they only checked. but since people here
ARE too much dingbats to check it even monthly, i rarely
give the URL out, and when i do i mask it like "this is some
page i found" instead of "hey guys why don't you go to my
page :((((((((." that's not me.

the main attraction isn't just that i know some things
before other people. for people who, like me, are into lots
of different types of music, it's a one-stop resource for
keeping tabs of what's coming out.

"if you don't care enough why look at all? or post about
it for that matter.
"

well it just frustrates me ;-) (frustration is a big word
though, it's not like i'm having sleepless nights over
this). I see a potentially wonderful site, ruined by your
refusal to pay any attention to the presentation. That and
LeCoeur's post made me write about it.

"that i'm peeved people ignore my
site, wait weeks or months for the same info to come out
elsewhere, then get all excited about it.
"

Yeah... okay. But whilst you're thinking: "what's wrong with
those people?!"... you might also look at it the other way
tound and think: "What am i doing wrong here?" The fact that
people get excited about it means they are essentially
interested in the information... so why don't they visit the
site?

"it's because i like almost everyone here that it bothers
me how people could stay informed on this sort of thing if
they only checked.
"

Then anwser me this: why don't you just tell people all the
good stuff right here on xltronic? It seems that would be
easier for everyone involved (you included) ;-)

refusal to pay any attention to its presentation? it may be
raw and basic but it's organized exactly how i want it. it
makes total sense. there are other good ways to go about it
but that's the system i designed and it stands up.

part of the appeal about having to scroll down through
release dates chronologically (jan. 3, jan. 10, mar. 15,
etc.) is people find out about other good music they didn't
even know was coming out. i constantly get comments like "i
didn't even hear about that, good lookin' out!" so really it
works two ways: for those who JUST want info on, say,
autechre, do a ctrl+f on "autechre" or just scan down (it's
alphabetical by SECTION). for those who want to know what
else is coming out soon, just skim it; the artist names are
in BOLD on the left. in addition, it says right at the top
what was updated when, so it's not like they have no clue
how to absorb the page.

it's true, there's a part of me that's frustrated and
insulted, but mostly i'm not too sympathetic. if people here
(and it's just people here, not elsewhere) are too damn lazy
to get past the layout, the colors, etc., then fuck them. i
purposely do NOT say shit that's on my page on here because
people shouldn't be so lazy or rude. not to mention that is
a very disorganized way to go about things and it excludes
most of the people who visit the page.

Hm... well that is a good point. I must admit i hadn't
thought of that one yet.

"for those who JUST want info on, say, autechre, do a

"

I still don't agree on that part though :-p
Or to put it another way: I'm not surprised many people
can't be bothered to go through all that. And i don't think
you can really blame them for it either.

"it says right at the top what was updated when"

If that list at the top would include every artist
featured at the site, now that would be convenient. Just a
list of all those names... so that you could instantly see
what's on the site, and if there is something you want to
scroll down to. (and you'd still have that same effect of
people learnin about other good music coming out that they
didn't even know about).

But it's obvious we don't agree with each other :-p And
that's okay. This thread went in a bad direction? I don't
think so (at least i didn't intend it to), i just see an
interesting discussion. If it were my site, i would make
some dramatical changes. But it isn't, so all i can do is
give my opinion about it.

(and i do not mind the red color btw ;-) i don't think blue
or any other color would be any better or worse than red).

that's like the laziest thing i've ever heard. there is NO

even if i were to pretend to JUST cover the artists that are

case), the list would still be about, what, 125-150 names?
do you realize how UNSIGHTLY that would be to have at the

the page and read the artist names on the left, or the most

page and they're all alphabetical. now that i'll consider
more because it could work out.
