it's not only the looks, it never crashes, sometimes one program will fail to work but not whole XP, you can always use task manager, when i had 98 sometimes whole win98 blocked/crashed
i love it :)
NB it's still crap, but less, haha

I only have '98,because I heard xp has loads of problems, and you have to d/l stuff from the microsoft site to correct the never ending problems.Or so I was told.
If I do upgrade to Xp the guy who I'll buy it from, sticks ProPaint on my comp for like £20!

eugh, don't listen to them! xp is terribly unreliable. if you're going to want to play games then don't heed my advice, otherwise, stick to 2000 professional. very stable, does the job, what more can you ask for?

Though I must admit I haven't tried XP yet. Partially because I'm glad the way win 2000 is running right now

Best windows: KDE on Linux! :-)
Linux is great. I hope in the next few years more multimedia apps get ported to it (this will be easier because a lot of companies are rewriting code for OSX which is also Unix-based).
Basically the only things missing in Linux land are:
- multimedia apps - driver support from hardware manufacturers
Right mow I'm using 98se for Windows apps and media. It's fairly stable unless I run slsk. :-/
I'm getting a new pc this month, prolly gonna get win2k on it (XP is unbearable)

95, 98, 98se, ME ---->crash a lot NT, 2000, XP ---->stable
...so I think the best one would be either 2000 or XP. Since XP probably has a heavier load on the system...2000 wins

I've used (some version before 3.11), 3.11, 95, 98, ME, 2000, and XP Home and Professional.
I've decided on XP Professional. The home edition of XP has insane restrictions. The bubbly skin can be turned off, if you don't like it. You can get rid of all the automated processes if you use it for long enough to get them all out. I haven't found any game that wouldn't work on it yet (I especially enjoy the nice program configuration for Win95, 98 programs under XP). The only thing is that it takes a bit more memory to get the same preformance you could get with the others. It's also very stable - I think I've only caused the whole OS to crash about 3 times in 6 months.
As for Linux window-managers, I use both Gnome and KDE, but prefer KDE.

nah, XP looks like crap.
I reduced it all back to "classic windows themes".
first thing to disable - all those FUCKING sounds and jingles!! highly irritating.
and those fade-out effects..
still, it hardly ever crashes, which should be normal, but everybody goes YAY! because they're used to Windows regular crappiness.
