Squarepusher dissapointment...

I got Big Loada and Hard Normal Daddy but I am still quite
dissapointed, they are both good records nut not very very
special, some cool tracks some good tracks, some nice riffs,
some good programming here and there, sometimes a good
melody but as a whole quite silly albums... In comparassion
with afx and ae. Do you still think I could like maybe Go
Plastic, Music has rotted one note, feed me wired things or
Do You Know Squarepusher?
I really would appriciate some advice here!
oh and by the way, how about µ-zig and Bodgan, are they
very much the same?

Music Is Rotted One Note and Go Plastic are both very
different, between them and between the other >[] out there.
in fact, Music Is Rotted One Note is even different than
most idm out there, it is rather jazz. those are my
favorite, the rotted note first.

U-ziq are great melody makers.Quite ambient with some simple
d'n'b..

Go plastic is quite a good album, but I'd say Do You Know SQ
is his best work yet.

It is not my intention to be picky or a pain in the arse,
but U-ziq is one person.

the best for you is to listen to samples before, MrDwatt...
(why can't you download? ' _ ')

The genious of Squarepusher creeps up on you after repeated
listens, methinks.

give it a lot of listens at ultra high volume and your
sorted.... dance to the fucking thing, trip your neans off,
have some smoke, ride a bike.......... climb some fucking
stairs to the pusher and you´ll understand!

oh, you are different
most I´ve heard think it´s crap, but I once listened to it
in the shop and i liked it!
btw what is on his live set?

offline MrDwatt from Helsinki (Finland) on 2003-03-03 09:28 [#00578645]
Points: 570 Status: Lurker

ok, that last one, was for DYKSP

-
yeah yeah, he is sometimes relly cool, but silly, the things
ivé heard is just dnb with ultra varied rythm and that is
nice or a odd form off jazz

Go Plastic is all over the place, it doesn't roll along with
a simple melody like most of his older work does, it jumps
from this to that with no warning, it's a head screwer, but
a good one

offline KEYFUMBLER from DUBLIN (Ireland) on 2003-03-03 09:38 [#00578664]

don´t listen to these "things i´ve heard" and fucking well
LSITEN to his MUSIC untill you reach that point when you
realise that he´s simply the daddy, end of story........ it
speaks for itself...... and the alive in Japan CD is the
most energy you´ll hear on a contemporary live electronica
CD

Go Plastic is pretty good. Some tracks are just noise as far
as I'm concerned.

I've heard a few tracks from Feed Me Weird Things, and I was
totally sweapt away. Is this album as a whole a good buy?

Go plastic is the only squarepusher worth owning(its
incredible too but the rest is too plain, except music is
rotted... which i havent heard), dyks is alright for a
little bit but gets old, dont get it. its not worth getting
anything by mu-ziq either.

I'm going to go with KEYF's praise and get DYKS. It's top of
my albums to get list.

I only got "go plastic" for reference, but it all sounds
like 1997 aphex without the great melodies, I only like "my
red hot car", right until he starts screwing with the beat
to much.

I think Do You Know, Big Loada, Go Plastic are all great
Squarepusher CDs. Budakhan Mindphone was a little bit boring
to me but maybe that is more for you if you don't like him
being mental. Music Is Rotted One Note was quite interesting
and grew on me a lot... Personally I doubt he can go wrong
to my ears, it seems like he just makes all other music
sound shit.

extreme warped bit crushing and grainulizing on abstract
rhythms is on there..and it is very different from the
rest...

Squarepusher: Definitely good. I really don't have a
problem with him. My favorites are "Go Plastic" and "Hard
Normal Daddy", throw in the "Budakhan Mindphone" EP for good
measure and you got yourself a weekend. ;)

Bodgan: "Samurai Math Beats" and "Bombs Over Ibiza" are must
haves.

Must warn you "Samurai Math Beats" can get pretty silly
sometimes. I highly recommend µ-ziq's "Lunatic Harness" as
I'm sure other would recommend this release too.

Tango 'n Vectif has some good tracks, but remember that they
are very old and if you are a huge music engineering freak
who enjoys stuff like Vsnares programming more than Aphex
melodies then you will be dissapointed.

Music is a rotted one note, isn't IDM at all. Its more like
a tribute to Miles Davis. Good if you like abstract jazz and
stuff like that.

Lunatic Harness is great, although "wannabe" is pretty damn
creepy... Royal Astronomy is very good as well... if i'm
not mistaken, U-ziq collaborated with some orchestra on that
album

He's too technical and not ''fun'' enough, I dunno... too
dry... he's awesome and almost without peer with DA SKILLZ,
but he doesn't have IT.

IT being that intangible that only true Champions have.

why? why can't i order from decent places?! i'm going to

Squarepusher is a a brilliant musician. i hate seeing people
talk negative shit about one of the two masters of IDM. even
if it's your opinion it's wrong. you know the phrase
"Opinions are like asses, everyone's got one" hehe. well
it's plain dumb calling a work of pure genius "silly".
no-one can make the music he can, well not as good. Ophecks:
you're calling squarepusher too technical when you listen to
Æ?? their music is purely technical (except mayve for their
early albums which are nice) with little or no emotion at
all. you don't think [] doesn't have DA SKILLZ?? he fucking
owns the IDM scene with afx.

No no, I said he DID have ''the skillz'', probably more than
anyone else in this genre. Certainly more than Aphex.

It's more than skillz though... I just don't feel the magic
with him, I dunno... his shtick is stale by now, DYKS went
nowhere except ''musique concrete'' (vomits). Anstromm Feck
was just turning the chaos up and do nothing with it. I
don't get the sense of fun listening to him that I do to
RDJ, or the sense of ''wow, this is far out'' like AE. I can
pretty much predict what his next album will sound like, I
mean seriously... I bet he's going to amp up the D and B or
just fall back to the jazz influence. I pray to God he
doesn't go in the DYKS direction. (except that first
track... but even that sounds like Go Plastic).

He IS a genious, he just doesn't get me interested like
Aphex. I've got no clue what he's doing now, what his next
one will sound like. Aphex always puts funny little
subtle/not so subtle jokes in his work, keeps me on my toes.

And yeah, AE is technical, but I totally hear emotion in it,
personally. It makes me feel cold, their sounds just take me
away. Never reusing the Amen Break or whatever, never
depending on musical virtuosity. Nothing makes mental images
in my head like AE tracks.

jesus i think SP "has it", that magic, above everyone else,
even RDJ. I think RDJ has the SP magic, mostly when he
DJ´s. Its all about forward momentum, viceral energy, the
idea of carrying you along to a point in space and
completely flipping your entire energy package so that it
now points to another place in time and space but keeps
moving.

As for "Angstromn Feck 4" . He does something with it LIVE.
Its a case of Tom saying "i have this great fucking tune
that is designed for live tweeking, because it is alive
itself... i made it alive, i gave birth to it and it
breaths." Listen to his two live rendering s of this, the
Ausie mp3 that floated aropund last year and the CD live
version, they are amazing, they are organic and are
extgremly different fro each other and capture a true
artistic genious as he works. Thats why he is the Daddy. RDJ
keeps you interested w with little funny subtle jokes and
noises, SP does this so fast, they enter your
subconciousness.... he never leaves you settled on one idea,
RDJ does a little bit, untill he DJ´s then he becomes more
like tom - sorry.

I have to try Go Plastic but the albums I´v got just
dosen´t hit me, only some nice places or nice riffs, but
it´s not working for me like ae and afx. For me sp has a
lack of deep emotion where I think ae and afx dosen´t. Sp
is naive in a sense, but still not bad at all...

different from any rdj song...
