No threads about The Black Dog? Have anyone heard anything of their music? What is the relationship with Plaid? And are there any chance of getting some of their releases, or even mp3's?

they are the same people .... Plaid - Trainer offers a bit of the black dog sound. It's really cool, though sometimes a bit dated, imo..
go have a look at kazaa - you'll probably find something

They were the bees bollocks before those two cunts went off to work on plaid full time. ed hanley(?) was left to carry on the black dog project and he is shit unfortunately. still got the egyptian thing going, but it just sounds cheesy. Get Bytes, then spanners, then temple of transparent balls, then parallel. avoid the rest.
bytes is my favourite idm album of all time, if that's anything to go by. which it probably isn't.

Jaworski: Searching for "the black dog" gave me "0 topic found. No result, mom! "
I found it very hard to believe, but then again, I've had similar experiences before.
What is "Black dog productions-Byte"?

Uh-Oh Jarworski, it looks like someone else shares my opinion on Bytes. :]
As for The Black Dog, I really liked the material up until Ed and Andy left, after that Ken just couldn't put it together the same.
As for what to get by them, I suggest getting your hands on Bytes, it's easy to find on the net, cheap, and the best damn IDM album out there (unless I consider Orbital's In-Sides the same).
Bytes is a collection of tunes made by each Ed, Andy, and Ken seperatly using different aliases. They called themselves 'Black Dog Productions' to avoid a breach of contract with GRP.
After Bytes, I'd suggest getting ahold of Parallel, another sweet ass album. It's pretty rare though, I myself am having a problem finding the CD. As for 'Parallel' it's a collection of songs (from various EP's on GPR) from pre-bytes, so figure 1992 and before.
As for Spanners, it was ok. I really enjoyed Psil-Cosyin, but that was about it. There older work seems to overshadow it for me.
Hope this helps you out at all.
And also, check www.discogs.com for Black Dog release info.

The Black Dog rocks! revpersona is just about spot on with his assessment. i am surprised more people on this mb are not hooked, as so many seem to like Plaid. Plaid are good, but not on the same level as The Dog (imo).

Yeah ! Nice to see that most of you share my opinion about them. I love Spanners and I love Bytes. The only plaid LP that touches that level is Rest Proof Clockwork. Havent heard Parallel though.

I have all their releases, from begin to end. Their first releases appeared on their own Black dog productions-label. The very first Plaid-release (Mbuki Mvuki)
was also released on that label! Black dog released loads of brilliant items on GPR, A.R.T., R&S, Planet-E, Rishing High and finally of course Warp. The group was splitted in 95 and Ed and Andy decided to go further as Plaid. Check them out, now!

mortsto-x, Black dog Productions is Black Dog. When Bytes (best IDM all time bye the way!) cames out, they were still under contract on GPR, so they have choosen another name.

All Black dog tracks are my favs! I remeber this group was touching my soul soo deep in the early 90's. Everybody is always talking about Autechre, Boards of canada,...But this group is ways better, there are totally overlooked. It's just my opinion, of course.

Get all black dog releases while you can, but avoid "music for advert" and all other releases after their split in '95. Bytes is definately one of the greatest and pioneering IDM album ever.
