...that me. I was out and I went into this bowling place, and seeing people having fun rreally pisses me off and makes me so deprressed. Sun makes me deprressed because you get people laughing in it and I have nothing to laugh about everr.
I love the bad weatherr because it brrings people down to my state of deprression. I'm a miserrable bastarrd in the Nth degrree.
I don't "like" to talk about how deprressed I am when I don't have cancerr orr live in a 3rrd worrld countrry but sometimes it comes to a head, and since i have noone else to talk to, herre it is. (well thats that forr a few morre months)

the consequences can seem as the source because they get bigger and bigger in a snowball effect hence they become the focus of your thoughts. i suggest you give yourself a break. don't be too hard on yourself, challenge your negative thinking (even writitng it down if necessary), do some retail therapy (buy a record), watch some tv, and learn to enjoy your own company a bit more. then you'll start to enjoy other peoples aswell. things won't change overnight. also, reading books about your condition will probably make you feel better, and understanding that other people do feel similar to you, although i fully understand how lonely depression can be.

''And yes, you have NO room to complain when people who have had their lives destroyed are out there getting on with it. ''
I don't agree with that. Yes, some people are drinking their own piss to survive and living in a shack in Africa, but that doesn't cheer me up. Different society, different expectations, different life, different environment, different pressures... you can't expect someone to be happy just because they're more ''well off'', it doesn't work like that.
That said, I'm a miserable bastarrd too and everything Anus said here goes for me too.

But look at the comparison
People who lose family or close friends People with AIDs, Cancer and all those other fucking diseases
Victims of rape People who get mentally and physically abused on a daily basis
...people who have there lives ruined through no fault of there own, but rebuild regardless... despite all the struggles and how difficult it is they battle on and eventually come out on top
Then there are these people that moan about pathetic little things, sitting around the house or wherever...not even trying to turn things around...

I'm not the msot cheerful person but I do enjoy my time spent, if its doing nothing and even leads to me to cry, that gives me the time to think and do homework, or write, listen to music
Self-pity is the worst, and you Anus should have that enjoy who you are, and what you have. =)

some people who live in complete poverty with nothing going right in their lives are still very positive, conversly some people who are wealthy and shouldn't have a care in the world are the most depressed
i don't think you can blame anyone for being depressed, even if they apparently have no reason

Exactly. Millionaires will get depressed and hang themselves, homeless people may be positive and try to make something out of nothing. You can't fault someone for being sad, no matter the reason. It may even just be a chemical imbalance in the brain. I think I have that.
And he's hardly given up or anything, this TOPIC is even a way of trying to make it better.

As a manic depressive I know that it pisses me of when i'm down when people say "there are people worse off that yourself".Its not that I don't care about the issue gerenrally, its just depression is a very self centered condition.
I get depressed for the same reasons as you Anus, infact its almost a carbon-copy.
Therefore I cannot give advice because nothings worked for me.Apart from shot term "fixes" e.g music.
I suppose talking helps for me a little,so I offer an ear to you and it looks like everyone else here does too.
I've learned to enjoy my own company, because its the only company I have.I've never had a serious relationship,im 17 and still a virgin! And I don't have much of a social life or career.
All i'm saying is,people are often feel/share the same problems as others.
There are ore similarities than differences between people.

Apart from shot term "fixes"
thats anotherr like me, i get something and i enjoy it forr a while, but then all the otherr things flood in and i'm back to sqaurre one, and i think whats music by itself, whats having nice shoes if only i can enjoy them, why botherr doing anything, why get a job, what matterrs, what have i got to live forr.
orr worrse, i get up and think, yeah i'm looking and feeling good today, i go out and see people with theirr gf and bf and then i get my hopes up think i'm gonna get out therre and do something and by the end of the day i have convinced myself that noone will be interrested in me and i'll only make a fool out of myself and who did i think i was assuming i stood a chance with anyone.

Short term fixes are good but can reverse the desired effect.Like i'll buy a pair of shoes and remember how much money i've just spent,I get depressed because I have no money ect.
About the gf thing or bf (whatever you go for) remember "Rome wasn't built in a day".It'll take time.I realise this and know it feels like you'll never meet anyone. You will.
I suppose you've just got to get out and meet people and eventually you'll find someone.
I don't really go out so I don't really have a chance,so I only have my self to blame.I know I should, but its just a case of putting thoughts to practice.

I know exactly what you mean. When I was 14, I emigrated and lot my friends, when I was 19 I cam back, lost the friends I had made overseas and my old friends had all moved on. Never managed to get back into the loop.
Anyway, that and other stuff has now led to a situation where I actually see people who aren't there, something that manages to be both comforting and desperately sad at the same time.
Hmm, sorry, this thread's about you, not me.

my case: i have depression and schizotypal personality disorder, so i went to a therapist and got put on zyprexa and celexa, gained a few extra pounds, and am alot happier. i'm not so paranoid now. but i still don't "get" being social, like it's impossible for me to be fully social. guess that's why i have over a thousand points on this board and still am like a newbie.

i think its to do with learned irrational thinking. you must challenge your thinking by constantly asking yourself why and answering because.... then keep on going through this loop and you might discover the real reason behind your unhappiness. and if im right then what is leaned can be unlearned. and as i said before, however difficult it is, get hold of a book and start to read about your illness, it will make a little difference at least.

I have to wonder what state I would be in without these imaginary people I see.
I think they came about through stressful times when I needed someone, but nobody was there. My mind created them to fill the gap. I can talk to them, they talk to me. In reality it's me telling myself the things I need (or want) to hear, but it's got to the stage where all the thoughts that come to my conciousness through me are negative, all the positive thoughts are suggested through the 'device' of imaginary people.
Gah.

heh, thanx, i think? :)
i'd also like to add that if you can complete even the samllest of tasks like goping to the shop or burning a cd that may make you feel better. at least at the end of the day you can say that you've accomplished something rather than just sitting down on front of the computer. also, i know this is very difficult but the more active you are the better you will feel. if facy i wouldnt be surprised if you didnt even believe me. but the only way you're going to be sure is to try it! :)
