aphex twin: gateway drug of idm?

i've always felt that from aphex twin, most people branch
into other areas/artists in idm, but every once in awhile i
hear of someone who hasn't heard of aphex but they listen to
boards of canada and others like that...is your personal
experience the same?

Aphex was one of the first "braindance" artists I listened
to...

marijuana = aphex
milk = carl cox

If you wanna go on with the analogy I started with milk.

autechre = spice ( or whatever it is in dune )

It started with Aphex and ended with aphex

Well Radiohead is still my drug music of choice, but now I'm
sharing it with Mr. Aphex, because its both earth shattering
great!!

i got into techno gunk like prodigy and crystal method back
in 7th grade or so...then in 9th or 10th i saw this wierd
video with little children running around with manish
features while a tune going "i want you soul, i will eat
your soul" played in the background...then in 12th grade my
friend said "here, this will hurt you" and bucephalus
bouncing ball was my first real intro to idm, got into aphex
like a madman, then squarepusher, then autechre, then
boc....and the rest is history

Exactly, he does a little bit of every style to get you
interested, and then you branch out. A nice ''hub'' for
electronic music.

He's WAY more varied than, say, Autechre or BOC. You know
exactly what you're gonna get when you put them on.

But nobody here knows what the Drukqs followup is going to
sound like, eh?

it's going to sound like him remixing 24 other people and 2
of his own songs :P

Bah, you know what I mean!

*shakes fist in contempt

I need some FRESH AFX... with an album cover that cost more
than 4 cents to produce.

I bought SAWII sometime in 94' and I was hooked. I needed
more. I never found it until I came to Aphextwin.nu and
Joyrex.com. Then I found the massive discographies and the
afx.nu messageboard. Never before have I found so many good
artist recomendation as I have hear. I love this place.

very activating sativa with good chrispy taste!

006: Yeah, this place is where I get all of my musical
recommendations...I've almost forgotten about Aphex
recently, so I've been making an effort to listen to him
more, so I don't forget what started me on this.
