Early Aphex Live Sets

I have seen various places (interviews, web sites, on here
a couple times a long time ago) say that Aphex Twin early
live sets had fake gear. Does anyone have links to any sites
with some pictures or information on this "fake" gear? Is
this all bullshit? A long time ago I read some where that he
also built a couple of custom synth's, but for all I know
that is just another one of Richards pranks. I know some
people on here have gone to his earlier sets when he used to
play live..... can someone here tell us more about this? I
imagine a ridiculously sized shell of a metal box with some
huge knobs on it... haha

Anyone here ever go to one of those earlier live sets?

I think Richard gave people back then the ol Razzle Dazzle
(ie: making his own synth's, my best guess he is talking
about making synth patches of somekind, maybe with one of
his modular systems or analogue synth's)

But who knows... he IS a musical geneius, but its hard to
tell fact from fiction from a person like Richard D. James

4000th post! Yay!

WOOZLE WOOZIE WEEEEE!!!!!

interview or sumthing
on watmm, aphex pics section...
it was on .nu too but we all know what terrible fate the

I know CJ Bolland made a fake modular for his tour back in
the day. Stupid idiot. Like they can't afford a Serge
Modular from hell. Or one of those newer Analog Solutions
deals or even the Doepfer.

BAH!

I guess it would be kinda neat to conjure up some realistic
looking fake gear...

but I would make it ridiculously sized... with HUGE knobs
and a box the size of a portopottie.. hey, maybe even a
portopottie with a shell over it and huge knobs.. haha

Id wager you something about this allegid fake gear
Phobiazero, eh eh?

Naaa, Tom said he used only hardware until his DYKS album,
even on go plastic it was all hardware.... he said so
himself in the phone interview. In previous interviews he
said how he trys and recreates the tracks as best he can by
himself, I am guess by that he means the knob twiddling and
bass playing on a few tracks live. So I wouldnt be surpirzed
to see a rack mount akia sampler, some eq moduales,
compressors, exciters... rack mount dsp effects processors,
and some fm synths or something, maybe a dat player (for
back up or something.. or faking it.. hehe) in that rack.
But you would think that only one box could fit all that
stuff... maybe its a position issues, placing the effects
boxes high on the rack for faster/easier access...

*goes and listens to go plasic*

All four boxes are identical, could he have just built his
own shells. Ive never seen anything like 'em. Hmmm.. Maybe
he did. I plan on shelling out 4 tech looking speakers and
filling them with knobs, christamas lights, and a cd player.
heh heh.

Are you talking about the picture on watmm, those are
pretty rad looking racks he has, or err.. the boxes
holding the racks. He has a midi controller there in front
of him in that picture, with a dat player in there, and some
patch cable thingy that I dont know what it is, and a
Eventide Orville effects unit, and the black box below it
looks like a cd player or soemthing.. haha. God I wish I had
the dime for a Eventide Orville effects unit.

Haha I love doing crap like that dolleater, I am trying to
fit my Boss Dr. Groove inside a shell of a toaster that I
have painted magenta with sparkles.. haha messing stuff up
(and hopefully still having it work) is fun

:)

I havent seen that many pictures of afx playing live....
just seen a lot of picutres of him hiding behind a table or
behind some decks

on closer inspection it looks that thing might be a Roland
VP-9000 sampler..

*goes to listen to Do You Know Squarepusher*

i wouldn´t care if squarepusher plaayed a CD at a gig and
just fucking messed with the EQ! its the energy he lends his
act. his presence and pace and sense of timing and
anticipation and build ups and mood adjustors and smell and
sweat and fun!
