...I just had them cleaned out by a doctor, and it's
amazing how crisp and clear everything sounds now :-D

I hadn't really noticed that my hearing got any worse (it
was only during a routine-check up that the doc said i
should get them cleaned... i wasn't having any problems or
whatever). But this is amazing! It's like i'm hearing things
for the first time... i was already in awe when i poored
myself a drink and heard that cluc cluc cluc-sound crisper
than ever before... and i can't even begin to describe how
much better Chiastic Slide sounded just then. This is so
cool :-D Like i've got a whole new set of ears!

reading that and looking at Georges face is funny. Seinfeld

If they shine a light in one ear, does it come out the other
side, now that you have had your ears done?

Hehehe

No, actually that is incorrect. When the doctor said i
needed to have them cleaned, the first thing i said was:
"huh? So i didn't clean them good enough? But i'm always
cleaning them with... ehr... (well you know, the thin little
sticks with fluffy bits on the end, have no idea what
they're called in english), but yeah, i said i always clean
my ears with that.

And he immediately forbid me to ever do so again.
Because all those things do is push the dirt deeper inside
your ear... hm... i had no idea :-/

But this afternoon they were cleaned by another doctor, and
when i asked her about it she said it would still be okay to
use those little sticks, and that there's basically nothing
i could do about it. Every couple of years or so i will
probably need them professionally cleaned, some people's
ears just produce more uh... "filth" ;-) No matter how good
you clean them.

So there! Ha! :-p

is it a special doctor that does it, like an ear doctor, or

I've often wondered how you're meant to clean your ears.
Several different doctors have said that to me you should
only use cotton buds/q tips for the outer parts of your ear.
What can you do to clean the insides?

Apparently having some wax in your ears is good if you are
outdoors a lot- it prevents insects from getting into your
ear canal.

Oh yeah, ear buds are bad. I recently lost my hearing in my
left ear for 10 days because of too much poking around with
eardbuds.

Best thing to do to unblock ears is put olive oil in them
twice a day until you can hear normally again.

doctor stuck a plastic thing in my ear and it hurt like a
bitch.

"I've often wondered how you're meant to clean your
ears.
"

well ehr... you're not supposed to clean it
apparantly.

The doctor explained it that nature designed your body to it
only being able to clean your ear for as deep as your
smallest finger will go :-p

I suppose what happens is the earwax is always constantly in
motion... starting in your inner ear, and moving towards the
exit or something? And yeah, having some earwax is good... i
guess... it must be there for a reason?

"I recently lost my hearing in my

eardbuds.
"

jesus...
well that settles it for me, i'm throwing away my
earbuds/cotton buds/q tips/ear wigs! That would scare the
hell out of me :-s... be very glad your hearing came back
after those ten days!

"Best thing to do to unblock ears is put olive oil in
them twice a day until you can hear normally again.
"

I had to do that in the three days before my doctorvisit
today. It's supposed to soften the wax up a bit...

"Did this cleaning process hurt much?"

...and she said on the phone 3 days ago that if i wouldn't
use the olive oil it would hurt really bad if the earwax is
hard and stuck to your inner-ear...

But now after the olive-oil it was completely painless, yay!

I had that done when I was a kid, and had a vertiable
"monkey's fist" of wax removed. I use cotton buds every now
and then even though I've heard you just push the dirt
further into your ear (and risk hurting yourself).

You don't notice how your hearing goes over the years, and
this thread has prompted me to go to the doctor sometime
soon and get it done.

ceri, the thing is you should never try to clean them from
the inside yourself... i have mutantly small earhalls (as
evertyhing else of me seems to be mutantly small it doesnt
matter but anyways). you need special eardrops to put in
your ears first and then you can just flush! aren't ears
just wonderful... i've been half deaf for few days now, my
right ear doesnt hear :( earwax is a good subject!

btw jar, come to the health center with me today, they tkae
the evil greeny stuff out for free and your finger too if
its stuck.
