Well first of all your ears might not even need cleaning! The first thing every doctor will do is look into your ears, and there's a good chance she will say there's nothing wrong and not too much wax.
But to anwser your question, for me it was completely painless. For three days i had to put three drops of olive-oil in my ears every night (to soften the wax a little), and on the day itself she just used a very simple device.
Have you ever had one of those toy injection-needles? From plastic and not sharp at all. I used to play with it in the bath when i was a little kid :-p
Well the device she used was alot like that (only a bit more powerful i imagine). And she just used that on my ears a few times (nice warm water too!), and that was it.
She warned me in advance that i might start to feel dizzy, because some balance-organs are right behind your eardrums apparantly, and a small percentage of people might feel dizzy from the cleaning-procedure because of that. But i didn't :-) It only took like 2 minutes and did not hurt at all.
And jarworski... i hope you're joking about the green stuff... otherwise i'd run to the doctor if i were you! Sounds nasty.

I've heard of that ! It's like when you go to a gig or somethng and you get that really annoying buzz after..... but forever !!
Sux =o(
I'd rather take a bit of a risk by cleaning my ears myself than having to go to the doctors all the time to have a stranger go poking about in there! Aslong as you dont go too far in it should be ok.
The best time to do it is when you come out of the bath, or first thing in the morning cause it's all warm and soft. hehe
Fact:
Dogs/cats like having their ears rubbed cause it warms up the wax and loosens it. Next time you rub a dog/cat's ears, watch them scratch them after trying to flick all the warm wax out

"trust me, i reckon i'll need it.....after years of listening to my cd walkman FULL BLAST!"
ehr... i think you've got two things mixed up :-)
Having too much earwax has nothing to do with listening to loud music. It has nothing to do with not cleaning your ears enough too... it's just something that can happen, with some persons more often because their ears produce more wax than other peoples.
Some folks need their ears cleaned every year, someone else might only need it every 10 years, and someone else only once every 100 years (so never). It just varries.
Listening to too loud music will give you the same problem C738 has... a constant and very annoying beep in your ears (altough if i remember correctly C738 didn't get it from loud music). I've had it myself a few times, after visiting a loud concert... but luckily it always went away after a few weeks.
I know loud music is great, but in the end it may very well result in having a constant beeeeeep in your ears for the rest of your life.
My walkman has a function that you can switch on and off. And if it's switched on, it will only allow the volume to go to the maximum level that is still "safe" (which is surprisingly loud i thought). So you can choose to be responsible and turn it on (like me), or if you really love loud music you can turn it off and crank it up to the insanely high volumes :-p

well, i'd have thought that ear wax would be linked to listening to loud music, because the wax would be produced because acoustic signals would stimulate the tiny hairs in your ear, and as everyone knows, when you brush or mess about with the hair on your head, it makes it greasy
i'd have thought the same would apply with your ear - the more stimulation (due to loud signals) added to the hairs, the more wax?
maybe? possibly? no way?
i dunno
i just reckon that i could do with having it done, seeing as i've never had anything like that done before
i've only been using those cotton wool stick thingies too :)
yeah, it's got AVLS (Automatic Volume Limiting System)
i don't use it though because my walkman goes from 0 to 9, and it only lets it go to 3 when AVLS is put on, and it's dead quiet, especially when your sister is blasting crap like Avril Lavigne from her room!
:)

well... this is where my knowledge of the human ear ends i'm afraid :-)
I learned alot about it yesterday, but i have no idea if loud music might actually make your ears produce more wax.

man, it's brilliant just when i clean my glasses!
you see, i have a bad habit of letting my glasses get very dusty and dirty, and it can be months before i clean them
and when i do, it's like WOAH! I can fucking see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i guess it'd be the same kind of thing with the ears
hey6, if i get it done, i'll synchronise it so that i clean my glasses at the same time i have my ears done!!
that'd be a shock to the senses eh?

"i guess it'd be the same kind of thing with the ears"
yes, i imagine much the same! :-D
I was really amazed with how clear everything sounded. I actually had to adjust to it... for the first hour or something i heard my clothes rustling very loud evertime i moved, and clocks ticking etc. My brain needed to adjust itself and block those sorts of sounds out again.
"hey6, if i get it done, i'll synchronise it so that i clean my glasses at the same time i have my ears done!!"
lol ;-) wow, that must be quite something yeah!
The doctor also said my eyesight had gotten slightly worse than it should be. I used to always have super eyes or something (i could read the smallest letters on that chart they always use to check your eyesight), but now apparantly it has dropped slightly. It's still pretty much average, and nothing needs to be done about it at the moment...
But i imagine sometime in the future i'll need glasses too. And i know myself, when it comes to cleaning them i'm going to be just like you ;-) So maybe one day i can experience that too, hurray!

i dunno... i kind of like glasses. I think it makes a lot of people look better than they were without glasses.
I once put on a pair of old glasses from my father to see how they would look on me... but when i looked in the mirror everything was blurry and i could only see a vague outline of my head ;-)
But if you don't like them, how come you don't wear contactlenses?
"i actually kinda feel defective :("
now that i can imagine... it must be kind of scary to realise you can't see clearly without glasses :-/

there is something wrong with my left ear, i don't know what it is, i've been seeing two doctors and none of them found anything wrong. except that the skin is a bit peeling off, and there is something wrong with my jaw too that may have consequences on hearing (but only may) - i had a lot of symptoms, but most of them disappeared, fortunately. i still have a few, for example i get ear clogs regularly, like every two weeks, it's annoying = /
or even when it's not a big clog, i know when i have something because when i laugh, listen to someone laughing or screaming, listen to some music, take a shower;... my ear go SCKKKRSTSTTHSHCHCHZZKRRZ.
i have a liquid product to put in my ear which cleans them, and to remove earclogs you're supposed to let the liquid inside the ear for 15-30 minutes but it doesn't work all the time... when it doesn't work i have to ask my father (he's a doctor) to bring a device from the hopital to remove them, i don't know how i would do if i lived alone at home...
also i have this weird pulsating sound at night, not tinnitus, something much softer and not a "pure" sound like beep, rather... the sound of stroking something, or what you hear when you put a seashell to your ear (the sea if you take it the poetic way, your blood streaming if you take it the scientific or goth way)...
and other little problems too.

That was an awesome post. I can sympathize with you, my ears are playing tricks on me as well. A lot of those sounds you described are familiar to me, but a lot of them are actually pretty pleasureable, gentle little rumbles that would comfort me at night... except that they definitely shouldn't be there. I think I'll get an aenima done on my ears, like Surrounded. The results sound intriguing.

c738 - inner ear problem - tinnitis - usually the higher frequency hairs break inside your ear before any others due to them being the smallest and most strained by the fluid currents in your ear, they break at loud volumes, these are rarely repaired
uzim - middle ear problem - get your eustachian tubes checked to see if they're blocked cos it sounds like you have a pressure build up (especially if it goes away slightly when you drink something) due to the tubes not allowing the pressure to equalise, you may also taste weird shit at the back of your throat, especially when stoned cos you're dying to taste anything but the ash.
surrounded - outer ear problem - wax overproduction, my advice is to quit shoving things in yer ear so often cos the ear will only try to protect itself more and produce more wax if you clean it out too much.
anyone else i can help
the big green thing, i'd get checked for bacterial infection.
