Big music mistake on my part!

Friday, I recorded a killer track live from my synth. This
thing was awesome; one of my favorite tracks. It had
harmony, rhythm, melody, counter melody, and it was just
really something special. I recorded this to casette tape.
Tonight, i was recording from the casette tape to disk to
turn in to mp3. i decided to rewind in my main stereo
'cause it's faster. Instead of rewind, I punched
record--ruined about 5 or 6 seconds in the middle of my
song. So I'm pissed about that. Very pissed indeed. I
recorded the same song on Saturday, but it didn't turn out
quite as well. The original was fantastic. It's got this
gap in at about 45 seconds. Really a big bummer. It was
the first track Lindsey liked :( and I really don't know if
I can rerecord it as well as I did last time. So,yah, one
of my best tracks down the tubes 'cause i hit the wrong
button. >8(

Prepare yourself for even larger dissapointments. It comes
with the turf. I've lost hours upon hours of material
through unfortunate data losses.

It build character, think of it that way.

Just think of it as a sacrafice to the cosmic oneness that
put the music in your fingers in the first place.

part of me thinks I should skip school tomorrow and start a
new tape... i can pound my track out every ten minutes.
it's 5:30 minutes long--i'd review after each recording and
then if not satisfactory, start all over.
that would be awesome. :)
I really only have to be there for two classes... the
question is how to get out of it!

Yah, man, thanks for the vote of confidence. ;) I've lost
other tracks before, but in retrospect, I don't miss them
because I've gotten much better tracks out recently than
then. but there's an emotional thing about losing some old
stuff. I suppose this version could be edited... I could
merge it awkwardly before and after the gap :)

i hate losing tracks.....
one of the best ones ive ever made, just a synth melody
part, it was amazing, very radiohead-ish if i do say so
myself, and the sound itself + the actual arrangement was
just perfect....

..decided to save it before i converted it to mp3 (in
fruityloops) and didn't realize that when it saved my file,
it deleted the synth part because i was using a demo version
of that synth plug in.....

...i recreated the part and its found its way into another
track of mine, its good, but not nearly as good as the
original...

i was quite upset

i guess it comes with the territory...

it happens to the best of us

computer crashed like 2 years ago

Yah--it's definitely frustrating. if APhex really lost that
mp3 player, he must be really upset.

if you can get the money together, it'd be an idea to get a
hard disk recorder?

maybe?

dunno how much they cost though

Im sorry about what happened, Luke, but I want to be at
school with you! Youre talented and persistent and you can
get it right again--I know it! Stop staying up so late; get
some sleep! Let your brain rest! I love you!

hmm..you say you lost about 5 or 6 seconds worth...

how about converting what you got as you got it to a WAV
file..and then touching up..editing..cutting and
pasting..patching up those six seconds with existing
stuff..

dunno..worth a shot..

that's a really good idea!!!!

might take a bit of patience, and it won't sound EXACTLY the
same as it was originally, but you can get it pretty damn
fucking close

great idea flea

:)

the most crzy shit. like mogwai and joey beltram and cex and
bits from bushwacked and then "BLAM" right in the middle of
"Ryan Kidwells funeral, a CD falls on top of the record
thats playing and skips the needle right off the record.
damnit, i was having fun....

That IS a good idea. :)

Luke--You can do that while Im at the allergist getting
shots after school. But plase come to school! You need to be
there for statistics and computer animation (we are getting
through After Effects together!), and you know you want to
be there for english to do those stupid bio poems! ;)

For "Who wants to see..." you can put, "the missing six
seconds of my song reappear magically!" as one of them. ;)

I will make sure your day is great! I promise you! :)

Thanks for the tips/cosolation, everyone. :D
I'll try redoing it, and if I can't get it, some shotty wave
editing will have to do ;)
I bet if I put a sample over the combining point, it would
sound like the song wasn't hacked in two :D

and can prevent things like this from happening. ;) *hugs
you*

my beloved is always right

i'm always fretting about my mom possibly not letting her
come up to stay, and she's always telling me "i've got a
feeling, calm down, it'll be okay, i will be able to come
down"

she's right every time

better you recorded the midi events while playing, you could
play it everytime, adding some new things while the synth
played the events :P

I'm sorry but this couple just has to stop. the beauty of
things like aim is that the public doesnt have to cringe
collectively when a conversation like this is exhibited to

If Luke and I both happen to post to this board, it is
perfectly appropriate for me to reply to his posts and give
him advice or support. There is nothing wrong with that.

Sorry to hear that mate.

I lost my best "commercial" track a few years back. It was
the only thing I've done that I could actually see them
playing in clubs etc.

Flea's suggestion may well work, give it a go.
