I'll second that. I want somewhere too. The only places that come close are Rock Nights and sometimes I'm not in that mood.

Yeah, rock or DNB seem the nearest. I got away with plaing CTD at a rock club last week :)
I'm sure there must be a IDM club in London, there has to be...

I wish I could find a place for 'IDM' in the North but I don't think thats gonna happen anytime soon.

perhaps if you resisted from giving the music that fucking laughable appellation "idm" you might start getting somewhere...
or... put your own fucking night on. it's that simple.

Erm... I used '' on 'IDM' because I dislike using the term myself.

IDM is a shitty name- but people know what you mean by it (at least here) I'd probably tout the idea to clubs as "cutting edge electronica" or something equally toe curling.
Put your own night on? No need- just DJ at a "normal club" and play IDM, he he.

oddly enough, that's what we do... go clubbing chat to some people and *bang* - there ya go. you'll more than likely end up in the chill-out room/back-room, but then it gives you leeway to play more *esoteric* music - and alot of people might not have heard of "idm" but they'll like it

"put your own fucking night on. it's that simple."
Really? Please tell me how?
What shall say instead of 'IDM'?
I don't fucking care. music is music, I like some of it and shit, yeah. Mint.

Have you been to Luton Orangeboy? If it's not Garage or Rap then it's rubbish. The area I live in is terrible for clubs. They really are. There's a sodding Jumpin' Jaks. Another club I went to started off some DnB so I asked for some classics and they laughed in my face.
Ceri: I'll ask Simon. He's bound to know and he'll probably be able to get us VIP!

try to organize an out-door park thingy on the summer and play some idm there. a good thing to do if you want to start organizing some club events. people who are interested come to listen and hang out. this way you will have a good public to start with. also a bit of 'easier' sound at first helps you out. there are tons of people who WOULD probably like idm if they heard it somewhere.

spikee - get together with some like minded friends, pool your money, hire a club for the night, print up some flyers...
can you see where this is going?
phresch - venetian snares is always good for that "4am and i've just dropped my 5th" head mess-up
or you can be nice and play some defocus

I'm trying to do this atm. It's not easy. I have a project going that will no doubt be laughable and fail. I have no free time and most of my money goes on Rephlex and ganja. I also work loads.

oh man, the Jumpin' Jaks was so lame in my home town (funnily enough, not a million miles away from Luton).
I wish I was still in Brizzle, those Mu nights at the Thekla look pretty neat-o.
As for nights out in the North.... fuhgeddaboutit.

sure thing, although I'm not sure when I'll next be down that way.
there were a few nights over the last couple of months at the Thekla, including leafcutter john, doormouse, vsnares and fanny.
Ceri: are you working or at the Uni/UWE/some other college?

the only clubby type thing i've found is Kraked in Reading and although I was surprised when i found it so near to me i was also amazed when i started looking in to finding other like-minded places and drew a blank... there's a night starting up at the Bridge and Tunnel in Shoreditch called [Esc], but I'm sure there must be more!
anyhow - cheers for all your replies, etc

Plenty of you Britons/·"Mainlanders"/UKers/non- hibernians come over the Irish Sea for hen/stag parties on cheap flights and generally add to the mess that is Dublin on the weekends! Howver why not come over for the growing number of IDMish nights we got going!!!!!
1 Lazybird - Sundays live laptop/improv/krautrock/idm dj´s
2. Bodkins Bar have open decks with a strong electronica flavour and recently hosted DMX Krew
3. Balroom of Romance - more live electronica/kraurock stuff on weekends in a pub setting
4. Handels Bar - open decks on mondays 5. plenty of one offs form Skam, Rephlex, Warp etc This friday.. DJ food of Ninja Tune at a new venue in the city! Can´t go wrong!
