i'm usually sick of my stuff before i'm done writing it.
especially if i'm writing a guitar based song. my friends
like it the first time, but not after a week of hearing me
work on it

eh?

some feed back would be nice... and maybe telling me what
genre this stuff should be in. and like. i'm not going to
listen if you say it's genre is crap... or shit... or crappy
shit... or shitty crap... or toilet paper... or like...
something that's worse than toilet paper... or like, the
little known genre "you're ugly"...

anyways, i think learning to cope is really cool!

I listen to my songs all the time, especially right after I
make them I drive around listening to them over and over.
Not even driving anywhere just listening. I let my mind try
to think of how it needs to be changed/fixed/re-mastered and
such. It's a good way to get perspective on your music.

I started making music in the first place so I would have
something to listen to that I knew I liked.. no guesswork.
I took everything I like about music and tried to put it
together. sometimes it works, sometimes not.. but I am dead
sick of all my stuff because I listen to it so much... I
obviously don't consider it professional, but I am happy
with it. :-)

After i finish a song i don't listen to it for a while cos'
when you are making it you have to listen to it over and
over again. But after awhile, sure...! And of course you
like it, why would you make a song that you don't want to
listen to yourself !

I used too hear my music a lot (preferrely when i was high).
It will get ideas cooking and make you think f other
guidelines when adding more to the songs.

Yeah.
I started making music coz I didn't kow people wrote what I
liked.
I wanted to be another chemical brother.
Well I am I suppse, but I don't mean in the musical sense
(*drugs*)

I listen to my shit more than I listen to anythgin else
except the beastie boys.

It's not wrong, it's the whole purpose of it, at least as
far as I'm concerned.

As long as you understand the fact that even though you
might really enjoy your shiz, other people migth not.
And it's not necessarily good.
etc.

What? What?
I'm hacign a lot of trouble saying what I actually mean
today.

Stress!!!!!!

usually i listen to pieces i finished some time ago, because
after i'm finished with one i'm too sick of it to listen to
it again immediately.
you can learn a lot listening to your own music though...

I normally listen to it until I get sick of it. That
normally tells me if it's any good. If I can keep hearing
over and over it's good.

come to think of it, as somebody else once said, "i actually
like making music more than the music itself"

I listen to it some times. But idneed only my somewhat older
music. I wait with listening to my music always for a little
while because only then I can say if it's good or not. If I
listen to it immediatly after I made it then I can't form an
opinion on it, because I heard it too often at that moment.

I know waht you mean. But I don listen to my own tracks a
lot. I remember Jarvis cocker saying he really liked this is
hardcore and moby saying he liked 18. People think it's
arrogance, but it's not. If you're of a level where you can
recreeate the sounds in your head 100% of the time, surely
your music should be the music you like most?

I know lots of artists whose paintings/sculptures are all
over their own houses...

Peche Noir: Indeed, vintage own music is the best. if you're
going to do your own mastering too it's worth leaving it a
month or so...

i usually listen to my songs heavily, after i have just
finished, and im all excited.

the test of its a keeper, is if i can listen to it everyday
for the next week, and still be proud of it. otherwise it
gets reworked/chucked out.

then ill listen to my old stuff from time to time.

but there is a certain time limit. some stuff is too old, i
dont think is as good as my new stuff, and while i listen to
it, and have a fondness to it, id rather listen to more
recent stuff, because the more recent stuff is that much
closer to what im trying to create

i try to make every song i make, better then the previous
one

but i think thats how everyone is

also autechre said in some interview the way they approach
music creation is to simply make the music they want to
hear. it's simple and profound. the artist is creating
something where s/he noticed there was something missing.

I have this one ideal style in my head, and the closer I get
to that sound the happier I am with the piece. The old
stuff never had it, I gradually get closer and closer. Once
I perfect that, I won't have anywhere to go.

there is always somewhere to go

by the time you get to that ideal, your tastes might have
altered.

it would be a sad day when you reached the point where you
dont think you could take it any further

i only occasionally listen to my own music. like most
artists, i tend to think my own stuff sucks (whether it be
true or not isn't the point). so it's rare for me to
actually take a listen to something i've made, at least as
far as electronic music goes. i play and write music on my
guitar as well, and that i enjoy listening to a lot.

I don't actually listen to my music because I like it or
something, but when I hear my own music I can remember when
I made it and for instance how I felt, which is pretty cool.
