I'm told aphex twin uses super colider software for mac. It's sorta a media program that uses a mild form of programming to do whatever you want it to do. Anyone know the skinny?

supercollider is the balls, really suprised that no ones getting into it far more now that it's freeware. Ive certainly banged on about it enough on this forum ;)
um yeah, aphex, he wrote a game (tron) and a neat-o graphics patch, but they were both for sc version 1 (now unavailable unless you ask nicely), and you'd probably have a headache porting them to sc2 or 3, cos they're both PRETTY darn fly bits of coding.
personally, i reckon i can hear supercollider ALL over most of the electronic tracks on drukqs... that bit at the end of ziggomatic especially... but i could be wrong.
as for those patches, both of them are in the sc-users-digest archive... they're not THAT hard to find.

Hi Steve, I know it's mac nly, but do you know of any PC euivalent/program that runs sc1/sc2 files on a PC? I want to get into audio programming and do my final year project on it... Cheers.

no there isn't :( and there's no plans for a windows port either. sc3 runs on OSX, so when that port is all sorted, i should imagine that the linux port shouldn't be too far behind. Have a look on the audiosynth site for the sourceforge page...
just get a mac! :)

You reckon it'd run okay on a 3 year old imac laptop (unsure of the spec...)? I could probably borrow one of those...
I was wondering about a linux port... Ideally I'd want it able to run alongside my windows stuff though. Bit of a shame really.

one of the toilet-seat ibooks? yeah, of course... sc shows you your cpu usage when you're running a Synth, so it's pretty easy to benchmark stuff.
as for the PC thing, hehe, it's a bit dodgy cos James McCartney (the guy who wrote supercollider) has gone to work for Apple now :) who knows though, now that sc3 is opensource.

I wish you could make SC instr's into audiounits. Cos, renoise is coming out with an OSX version. Would be a nice combo. It'll never happen, though. I tried executing the aphex patches in sc1, once, but I think I had the wrong version of SC1. Some missing files. Bad crack. Sounds to me from the sc-users list that rich had help from a guy named mamoth. Plus, Mcartney mentioned rich had someone making him stuff for SC. I think rich is the best, but full of shit about these kinds of things. He loves mystery and blowing things out of proportion. Anyway, Sc rocks.
