How would you describe the sense of humour in your country?

Dutch humour has a lot of sarcasm, it can be very honest
and hard.
A lot of malicious pleasure.
I believe this subject can lead to some nice discussions,
but hey I could be wrong...

Well, down here in Australia I guess we make fun of other
countries and even laugh at ourselves!

Has a slight hint of curry?

no. I think what you mean is komijn cheese. But I just mean
regular cheese.
Holland has the best tasting cheese imo.
But let's get back ontopic shall we?

ehm, on topic: the politics here (The Netherlands) have
taken on some sort of sad humor recently.... specially this

makes me sad

balkenende met z'n normen en waarden!

grmbl

He's against violence on television, he's against soft
drugs, he's against every fucking thing I love about this
country!

I expected these things would happen, but not this fast.
Can't wait to see the next episode tonight on the news.

LuckyPsycho : One who is devoid of emotional involvment in
the surrounding environment, thus finding it easy to carry
out acts that some may describe as psychotic... and getting
away with it

balkenende is a hypocrite- you can't say things like 'no
more violence on tv' and then have a member of your own
coalition punch a journalist in the face

makes the 6 o clock news enjoyable, though ;)

Yes, everybody should respect the law more, and the
enforcers of the law shouldn't tolerate that much anymore.
Except... driving too fast...that should be....
tolerated....hmpf...thisdoesn'tmakessensedoesit?

tragedy + time = humor

the bigger the tragedy, the longer the time until it's
funny

i saw this formula in a magazine, it is not an original
thought from me

offline Nexus 6 from Netherlands, The on 2002-10-03 10:01 [#00391516]
Points: 3221 Status: Lurker

so you describe humour in the US as tragedy + time? Like
what? Can you give an example?

offline recycle from Where is Phobiazero (Lincoln) (United States) on 2002-10-03 10:18 [#00391526]
Points: 40084 Status: Regular

example:
if a tragedy happens (and i 9/11/2001 wont work in this
expample) adn you give tihs traggic event enough time, you
can over an amount of time make fun or or make the traggic
event not as traggic as it once was

Nexus 6--yeah there have been comedians and jokes about sep
11,2001, but its kinda of a touchy situation for many,
1000's of people lost thier lives, fathers, wives, sisters,
brothers, relatives and friends :0(

i love my family i would never get over a relative dying
(except for my dad)
