I saw him DJ at the Scala early last year. It was before
Drukqs came out and I didn't know what to expect. He started
off with some electro type stuff, building it up & then went
into GanjaMan by Krome & Time which is an awesome old skool
jungle tune I NEVER thought RDJ would play... I danced my
arse off and later had to check it was him, he was head
down, spliff in mouth, laptop plugged in, playing some very
weird druqks type stuff. I loved it! A great night.

only once 'live' -
as DJ (4 times)

it was 1999 i think, a lot of SAW2 stuff
.....extremely weird with half-a-dozen break dancers on
stage of the Olympia theatre, Dublin - one of 'em a lind of
chunky, longer haired version of the man. RDJ was hidden
behind a curtain type thing and i was fucked on a hash
yogurt - extremely trippy...
As a DJ he's unbelievable - always a nice bit of >[] as well
as his own stuff and jungle, gabba, and Bily Ocean(i swear)

1992..Braintree...the infamous riot gig...
1994(ish)...Brixton Academy...best gig ever...played live &
blew the place part...
2002..London Astoria...DJ gig...

think that's it....the early gigs were the best as he played
live(ish) & it felt so much more improvised...but perhaps
the drugs were stronger then..

<------I've seen this guy live before....
he's pretty underground in the 'gabba' scene.

He did a gig in Braintree but things got fucked cause
someone ran off with the takings so people were basically
nicking everything in sight & having a mini-riot...the club
closed after that...:(...

I believe that where Liam & cru got his hands on AFXs 303...

saw him at glastonbury '97 -came on to the imperial march
and played live with his two teddy bear dancers (like in the
donkey rhubarb vid...think it's that one anyhow)

went to his NME gig (with ed dmx- who was feckin marvelous!)
earlier this year...crazy dj type thing - most people were
talking thru the first 1/2 hour or so cos he was hidden away
and no-one seemed to notice he was on- which was a tad
frustrating!

Also - popped along to the Glade's at Glastonbury this year
to catch the Warp Dj's before Plaid were on and lo and
behold, it's mr james himself playing all kinds of crazy
nonsense - including mc hammer :)

AFX...he was a legend on the rave scene they sprung up
from...

A classic Aphex gig was:
"The Rephlex Disco Assault System" that hit Dublin in 2000
It had to be seen to be believed. There was practically a
private
party on the stage with Cylob dressed up as a giant banana,

2 japanese school-girl characters body-popping, RDJ dropping
a load of Squarepusher
as well as a gang of the rephlex guys on stage dancing -
maddog wallace, dj mastercontrol etc. It really felt, i
dunno, Cornwallian or something.
The mood was that you were amongst freinds and they were all
fucking nuts.

oh yeah...i specifically went to Sonar last year to see
him...the rest was a bonus!

The maddest thing was it all came about cos some student
invited 'em over after his gran d
died and left him enough money finance it .......AMaZING.

(if anyone knows where that student is at, just give him my
regards for a top-class gig)
