there have been some posts saying the electronic music sales are down alot... and that its because of mp3s... and we should buy more cds. but then i see all these posts of people saying that warp gives them free cds in their shipment... i dont get it... youd think if they were hurting from sales... they wouldnt just give stuff away... im confused? someone please explain! |

of couse they make a profit,giving stuff away is just advertisement so more people will hear about them & may buy more by artist/artists in the process.or maybe im to cynical. |

I don't think shipping is that bad, well, it's more than U.S. shipping for sure, but not outragous like you might would think. |

shipping isn't bad at all. if you have an account with warp and live in america, before you hit "send order," they give you a link to a conversion chart. and another thing!, as much as i appreciate budakhan mindphone, why not send an album i DON'T have? eh, oh well |

I made an order today because I heard people telling tales of getting free swag in their orders. The two discs I ordered totalled about 37 or 38 US$ including shipping. |

Free stuff from WARP varies; I've gotten promo albums months in advance of their official release (Go Plastic) with tiny orders, and I've gotten a few postcards with large orders (DrukQs - ordered the vinyl and CD). I guess it depends on if adding an extra item will push it into another shipping category or not may influence what they put in there. I'm in the states, and I always get my orders promptly and it's usually 4 squid for shipping (about 6.50 US) on almost everything I order that is normal CD or record size. You also gotta consider the US economy is down, and that does influence other world economies as well. This file-sharing this is new technology - it will be some time before people get used to it and the industry finds a way to profit from it and things will stabilize. The question is, will smaller labels like Rephlex and Planet µ be able to hang on? I sure hope so for our sake and theirs. |

or you could just buy their albums if you want to support them, and make your own shirts, which is easy, fun, and not too expensive like pretty much every piece of merchandise in the world.. |

I've always had great service from WARP....prob better than any others.... Seem to get things to me within a day or 2.....plus some goodies!!!.... SUPPORT THE LABEL DIRECTLY!!! (when you can).....and the WarpMart prices are very good as well... |

ok sorry, this is getting off topic, but "making shirts??? ehhh thats a waste" how is making shirts a waste, when you already have some boring white shirts lying around, some black fabric paint and a brush. Paying 30 pounds or more for a shirt with a logo that you could just as well create yourself seems more like a waste to me. You already pay more than enough money for the artist's albums.. |

few other outlets? what about HMV and all the other highstreet shops? but yes, i'm sure with the fans that are more into warp it is VERY successful as for the free stuff, I think much of it may be things lying around, they must accumilate shitloads |

i think that are cord label like warp shouldn't be afraid of poor sales...i wouldn't like warp signing bad artists or groups just to make some money...i also think that lots of money come from the gigs instead of records sales..i know some friends that enjoy warp music live but they don't buy warp stuff |

giving away promos and stuff isn't goig to hurt sales from warpmart cos, apart from it being good advertisement, warp are 'cutting out the middle man' to coin a phrase you'd think. so theyre getting bigger profits so they can afford freebies. |

i don't think the warpmart prices are reasonable at all actually, so far i've been able to get everything i want domestically from bn.com (cheap prices and FREE shipping) or from label sites like heftyrecords.com. not only are label sites prices almost always cheaper than those offered at warpmart, i don't have to pay $6.50 shipping overseas. if i ever find something i can't get domestically i'll order from warpmart, cos i've always wanted their free swag. speaking of which, one of the main reasons they give out free stuff is cos they have an abundance of it and they take up too much space in their headquarters, especially misprint stuff and older promos they never sent out. the other main reason, as already discussed, is just advertisement and building up a loyal fanbase. |
