ok several questions.
1. Do you think there are any real music geniuses that are around today?
2. people consider all these classical composers genius, like mozart, bach, beethoven etc etc. Do you think aphex twin, or anyone else for that matter will be remembered this way? are they the equivilant to the older ones?
3. If the composers from the past where born in this time, what style of music do you think theyd be making?

Genius is a difficult thing to quantify. But in my definition I would say that it does exist. The real question is do you think that the people who survive the test of time will truly reprisent our generation?

There is genious, and there is: musical genious.
Richard is definately a musical genious. I consider him just as good as beethoven, bach, etc.

1. all depends on what you call a genius... i don't really have an opinion about this :)
2. aphex twin will be remembered some time, but not like classical music geniuses... these will probably never be forgotten. aphex will someday. :(
3. maybe they just wouldn't make music at all :) but i don't see any problem with them trying to make electronic music for example... it wouldn't suprise me at all :)
(it would surprise some classical fans who think classical music is the only "real" music... arrogant bastards ;))

i think id have to say RDJ is a genius
he really pushed boundries and did stuff no one else did.
and he did it well
in addition, he also made ALOT of material.
Quality, and Quantity!
i dont know if he will be remembered though.
but then again... how do we know who will? will the famous avante garde people be remembered? they did new things, but they dont a mass public audience (just like RDJ)... so will they be overlooked?

there so many different types of intelligence, and therefore so many different types of genius - mozart had the genius of being able to listen complicated polyphonic works, return home and write out the musical score note for note, perfectly... for example, whilst a youngster, he was invited to the Vatican, where he heard Allegre's miserere: at the time, not permitted to be played outwith the vatican -- mozart returned home after hearing it and wrote it out -- now that's what i call genius (volume 1)

genius can mean someone who excels in a certain field beyond many others in the same field ....so u don't have to be a scientist to be a genius...you could be a creative or musical genius...
if Mozart was alive i think he probablly would've put to use synths and samplers in his music...if he was a true genius like they say he probablly would've wanted to use the infinite number of sounds and possibilities electronics can provide in his music...
Richard James IS a genius

in terms of the actual definition of a genius (i.e. an IQ of 150 or above) i'd have to guess yes, he is: whether he is as naturally musically gifted as some great composers i doubt it, but he is probably a better writer than most classical musicians: lots of classical music only sounds impressive because it is being played by an orchestra

ok then, try playing a symphony on a shitty old sound card then: it sounds like shit: then try it with certain pieces and it sounds wicked: give me a healthy royal wage, a harpsichord and loads of paper and i could do that shit easy: go download a classical music midi file and take it apart and you will see how cruddy the harmonies are at times...

McCartney is a genious, although that was in his youth... but he's alive, at least.
I think Aphex Twin is a genious... I don't think Autechre are, even though I like them more, I think. They're too static. Even though they go further and improve, I mean, are they REALLY going much further? Hell, EP7 freaks me out and feels more fucked up than Gantz Graf. And it's still the same ''machine-pshycho-lack of emotion IS an emotion'' stuff.
Richard does it all, and does it all well, a jack of all trades, darlin'.

IQ is measured on a scale of 0-170. 170 is the highest attainable score. That's how it works. The Unabomber hit 170; many people have--one cannot get a higher score than that by a legitimate IQ test.

Substitute "music" for "world" and you will have a musical genius, which is what RDJ has done so he is a musical genius.

what is afs' IQ anyway?
who the heck is nirvana? ive heard of them but not actually heard them.
and as for the term genious- i beleive it is totally a matter of opinion- people with a high iq could sit on their asses all their life, a high intellegence doesnt make u a genious....inventing something or changing someones view on life might be, but again its your own opinion and experience if soeone had changed your life or not.....in my opinion afx is not a genious, but i wont object to anyone saying he is.

there have been a few individuals who have scored around 200.

I laugh when sports people are called geniuses.
In the paper I work for Rivaldo was called a genius cos he chested the ball down and turned and scored with his left foot.
I practices all day and is a left footed player. This is simply a machanical movement of the body.
Genius my arse !
