These guys seem to get a bad rep, why is that? I love
them... nice, wimpy, harmless pop rock! Nice sounding ringy
guitars, catchy choruses, come on... they're great.

Am I stupid for liking them, or do the rest of you
abnormally brilliant IDMers like the as well? If you hate
them, then why?

like 'fuck it' and the sound engineer is like 'americans
luvv the fucking guitar sound'
anywayz
two weeks later she was trying to pawn the shit off on me
i laffed at her

if i cared at all i;d do an IDM remix of their shit and make
sound even worse

I love both bands' ''wimpy, sensitive guy'' lyrics. And
nice, nice overproduction, lots of candy coated guitars!

Don't panic is a lovely song (coldplay)
couldn't hack 'em for long though

Travis are poo
"Driftwood" is one of the most self-reverential, sneering
pieces of snotty pap my ears have ever had the misfortune to
endure .

"you're driftwood; hollow and of no use..."
Thanks, I really wanted to hear that, lads.

No, it's not a windup! I love Travis, and I love Coldplay. I
have all their albums, except Travis' first, which kind of
sucks.

Then they got into the ''senstive guy'' rock, and I like
that. Their producer (Godrich?) makes purdy sounds.

And I LOVE Driftwood, even if the sap can be cringe worthy!
I love the music!

Ophecks > purdy ?

sounds like a word Ross just made up in an episode of
Friends , whassit mean ? sweet ? sexy ? cat-like ?

Not that I'm complaining, I think its a kinda cool & Noisty
word :)

Purdy=pretty!

Jingly jangly guitars, lots of nicely, glossed over
production. Not raw, that's for sure... Travis ain't GG
Allin!

ok i REALLY don't like travis or coldplay, but i do like my
fair share of... well... whatever the type of music is

mercury rev
kingsbury manx (excellent)
supergrass
doves
dandy warhols (especially the dandy warhols)

travis, coldplay, stereophonics
bland bordering on offensive
you've all been brainwashed! :P

offline Phatbert 000 from Augsburg (Germany) on 2002-06-12 22:22 [#00263089]

Coldplay is not bland at all. It's subtle and wonderful.

Travis I've heard too much off and am finally sick of. Seen
them live three times and when I was asked to go when all my
mates (about 15 or something) were going I just couldn't put
myself through all that "niceness".

Travis' first album is just a compilation of rip-offs of
Oasis' track "Digsy's Dinner" except not really that great
and Fran's voice gets REALLY annoying when he groans.

I can still listen to The Man Who sometimes though, it's got
some really melancholy tracks unlike the new CD which is all
happy days and singing la la la.

I love Coldplay, and think Parachutes is a fantastic
album!!! Travis however is alright, but nothing more... The
Man Who has some good songs, but a lot of crap... I like The
Invisible Band better...

I don't think there's anything intrinsicallly wrong with
Travis or Coldplay. They're quite "nice", and they're
certainly better than the glut of God-awful shouty American
"nu-rawk" bands that seem to be doing the rounds nowadays
(Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Slipknot, etc). I fucking hate
that shite.

have you checked out the doves ophecks? i just bought their
new album, quite nice..the lead off single "there goes the
fear again" is great

Wow, I think Travis is better than Coldplay... apparently
I'm the minority. The Man Who is one of my favorite rock
albums of the last few years. I didn't like The Invisible
Band nearly as much.

And I'll check out the Doves, Ross, whoever they are...
first I've heard of them, I'll look them up.

are you a fan of new order? some of their stuff (like catch

does anyone remember the song
"Ain't No Love, Ain't No Use" by a dance act called Sub
Sub?

Well Doves is exactly that band minus the female singer.

offline jonesy from Lisboa (Portugal) on 2002-06-13 11:11 [#00263836]

Sub Sub have a great track called 'Past'. Look it up. Its
not like Ain't No Love; it guitars and beautiful.

I wouldn't bother with the new Doves album; I took mine back
in tears of disappointment. Their first album 'Lost Souls'
is a fuckin masterpiece and pisses all over boring indie
trite like Travis. I've been plugging Doves here for ages
and am glad to see someone else digs 'em.

the latest Q article described them as looking like binmen.
In the same issue they said that of the old Oasis line-up.
Must be their mot du jour.

funkmaster, one of my favourite new order songs :)

jonesy- i understand what you're saying..it seems a bit
polished in quite a few places..i really don't like the
track "words" either...but there goes the fear, pounding,
sulphur man and satellites are reason enough to keep it, i
think it'll grow on me
