Well it's the only XTC album I have so I can't compare it to anything else by them. It has a theme about seasons and rebirth. The album feels melancholic, but it also cheers me up.
"Dear God" is kind of a sore thumb on the album, it sits uneasily with the rest of the tracks.
And ... there's at least two songs about rain, so maybe that's why I always put it on.

i'm from london so i don't have really have a particular rain album, cos it is always pissing it down here, but car boot soul is cool for grey days as are both ambient works
surfing on... is wicked for walking through a rainy city on a shitty day with your walkman on, cos it has that perfect walking pace tempo ( i walk fast)
