did you know that tape splices do not sound like the same thing done in software? yeah fair enough, you could also extend the analogy to film if u wanted (anyone watch Doc Martin?) but an oscillator is (usually) an oscillator and and env is (definitely) an env, and you can fit a lot more of those into a laptop than a modular rig.... it's a waste of space and electricity, but none of the guardian readers seem to be too much interested in that. |

everyone knows you just need a laptop to make decent electronic music delia derbyshire used tape but she also used valve oscillators and filters, valves will probably make a comeback soon, metasonix and various other companies are making valve synths... if you want to remake drukqs or the tuss then a laptop will do, if you want to make breakcore a laptop will do. but i dont want my music to sound complicated like the tuss or drukqs. and if i want to use hardware then i will, and if i want to make shit fart noises i will. for now. :-D |

i don't disagree with steve, but i just like to watch these kinds of videos i don't have modular synths. i have some stuff, for fun and admittedly decoration (some behringer stuff and thing) people i respect say that the synths are mostly just for workflow purposes, not, or hardly, the sound |
